Fans of the “Money Heist” series from the streaming service Netflix know that the bank robbers around the professor use city names to protect their identity. It was very important to the professor in his planning that the members of his gang have no personal connections with one another and that the robbers themselves do not know each other’s names.
He was not very consistent when you consider that he hired his brother Berlin himself, Moscow and Denver are father and son, and Helsinki and Oslo are cousins.
And although the identities of most of the bank robbers have already been revealed, the gang members still call themselves by the city name. Even the newcomers Mónica Gaztambide and Raquel Murillo became Stockholm and Lisbon. But why did the creators choose these aliases?

The answer is pretty simple. At first, it was planned to give the bandits names of planets. Showrunner Álex Pina told French Lifestyle Magazine that one day a crew member came to work with a t-shirt that said “Tokyo”. This is how the idea for the code name came about.
However, the city names have nothing to do with which country each person comes from. Only Mónica’s code name, Stockholm, has a deeper meaning. Since she was a hostage in the first robbery and then fell in love with Denver, the bank robbers joked that she had Stockholm Syndrome.
