Kate Winslet is an English actress and singer. She is the recipient of an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, three BAFTA Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award. Her film roles have ranged from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction and historical dramas.
Winslet was born in Reading, Berkshire, England, to Sally Anne (Bridges) and Roger John Winslet. Winslet has two sisters, Beth and Anna, and one brother, Joss. She began studying drama at the age of 11 at the Redroofs Theatre School, a co-educational independent school in Maidenhead, Berkshire, where she was head girl.
At the age of 12, Winslet appeared in a television commercial directed by David Bailey for Sugar Puffs cereal. She made her film debut playing a supporting role in the 1994 British drama Heavenly Creatures.

In 2004, Winslet starred in the romantic comedy Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, opposite Jim Carrey. Winslet received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance.
Winslet’s other notable films include the drama Little Children (2006), the biographical drama The Reader (2008), the romantic comedy The Holiday (2006), the drama Revolutionary Road (2008), and the science fiction film Divergent (2014).
Winslet has been married to directors Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton and is currently married to businessman Edward Abel Smith. She has two children from her first marriage, and one from her second.
