Jupiters Legacy: The best comic story didn’t do so well in its live-action adaptation.

Jupiters Legacy Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s comic book story, Jupiter’s Legacy was made into series, and it received very poor critical reviews.  After season one and a month of streaming, Netflix ended the series permanently as it didn’t receive any audiences.

Jupiter’s Legacy cancellation has shown that the series could no longer give its best narration. Season one finale has witnessed Brainwave’s wicked plots leaving the audience on an edge and finally, the series can adapt some of the comic’s awesome storylines, which was cut short.

The narration of the story is multigenerational, the Heirs of the first-ever superhero team, who were happened to be the founders of the Union of Justice, are trying to carry the legacy of the Union to some extent. Jupiter’s legacy has a very divergent kick-off when compared to other superhero movies.

The narration of the series is very slow and most of the season focused only on building the primary dispute. Brainwave’s unexpected betrayal and the degenerating relationship between Brandon and his father Sheldon were the only cliffhangers that would have been mainly covered in Jupiter’s legacy season 2.

Jupiter’s legacy missed some of the major fascinating storylines from its comics due to its cancellation of series prematurely by Netflix, which has made the series end before it could start.  In Season one, Brandon wants to prove himself to his dad Sheldon Sampson (aka, The Utopian) by living up to his expectation since his sister Chloe has deviated greatly from their way of life, but there was a constant dispute going on between the father-son duo.

Jupiters Legacy: The best comic story didn’t do so well in its live-action adaptation.

The fact that Brandon killed the Blackstar’s clone was the center of the dispute between the Paragon and The Utopian, as the killing was against the moral code of the Union of Justice.  Brandon in the comic book has a very tense attitude towards his father comparing to his counterpart in the series.

Jupiters Legacy
Brandon is ultimately got influenced by the Brainwave, which made him a murderer, killing both of his parents, and also attempted to kill his sister Chloe before she got away from him and their uncle Walter. As the show has been terminated, fans can never come to see Brandon battling his father Sheldon.

The end of season one has revealed the show’s antagonist, Brainwave. The plans plotted by him are quite complex, which involves creating Blackstar’s clone, letting out the original version of the villain, and blaming the Skyfox, for the tension between Brandon, Sheldon, and the new generations of the heroes. The revelation of Brainwave as an antagonist is too late for the game. Even though the twist of Brainwave created a big potential for the plot in season one, the cancellation of the series made it fall apart. It’s a pity that Brainwave murdering his daughter Raikou and exploiting his team and family member can never be witnessed in live-action.

The majority of eight episodes in season one is focused only on the buildup. The aspects like – The Utopian momentarily hesitates on saving Brandon while fighting Blackstar, Hutch trying to find Skyfox, and Brainwave’s hidden motives – which consider being interesting has left hanging. Jupiter’s legacy took so long to reach the core of its story, has made to believe that the series can never able to tell the story it was intended to tell.

The series spent most of its plot on Sheldon’s vision and the backstory of the Union’s founding members in 1930. This made very little space in the plot that must be set in the present day and exploration of the character’s lives. Jupiter’s legacy’s slow nature of the plot didn’t help it gain any momentum and the twist came very late in the series.

Jupiter’s legacy comics have a very intriguing story when compared to its live-action adaptation. It dealt with various aspects like Political issues, the influence of power in the world, superhuman abilities, capitalism, the ideological difference between generations in a very fascinating manner, that its live-action adaption has failed to do so.

The series managed to shine some light on the moral code of the Utopian and The Union and the younger generation of superheroes, yet it was incomplete as the series have scratched only the surface level and didn’t venture any further.

Jupiter’s legacy comics have interestingly covered some of the aspects like, What is it like to grow up in the shadow of one’s superhero parents? which was failed in its live-action adaptation. The live-action adaptation of the comics didn’t spend any time on developing Brandon and Chole’s relationships with their parents. The major entity that was missing in the series is it didn’t engage the audience as it did in the comics.

The Comic has beautifully established Walter’s belief of Superheroes should do more than saving people individually, and showcased his attempts to build upon the superhero influence on a national and global scale.  To be concluded, Jupiter’s legacy comics had a very engaging plot and storyline when compared to its live-action adaptation.
