Batwoman Season 2: Used Fan Art As Inspiration

Batwoman Season 2 Update: With the advent of Ryan Wilder’s new costume for Batwoman, the behind-the-scenes art team used fan art to promote. By the time of season 2 of Batwoman, things will look very different from the Arrowverse shows.

Ruby Rose first played with Kate Kane for season 1 but eventually left Batwoman before the start of season 2. This led the producers to decide: Recast Kate, or create a new character. Finally, they chose to bring in a new person. Javicia Leslie was cast as Ryan in July, and will officially make his debut playing in season 2 tonight.

Batwoman Season 2 Update

When he first started wearing the Batwoman dress, Ryan would be giving Kate a suit from the first season. However, as he enters the segment and makes it his own, Ryan will get his Batsuit. CW unveiled the first official look of Ryan’s Batsuit in October while showcasing all the different styles of Kate, such as the inclusion of red gauntlets and curly hair.

While speaking Leslie explained the process after coming up with Ryan’s costume. Leslie collaborated with showrunner Caroline Dries and costume designer Maya Mani on ideas, especially by posting fan art back and forth. This different look gave them ideas on how Ryan should look like a Batwoman, especially when it comes to the four curves:

But more than anything, a lot of fan art incorporates hair because my photo of the announcement I had, like, big curled up, Leslie goes on, explains how they decided to finally cut Kane’s red hair with Wilder’s natural hair. Caroline and I looked at each other, “This is it.” We have to do this. We have to do this. ‘And then that was one thing we knew for sure that our Batwoman would have: a big curly one here.

The curly hair in Ryan’s Batsuit really looks different, and it effectively makes Batwoman play its own. It’s a clear example of bringing the origins of Ryan and Leslie to Batwoman’s look, and in addition to making the suit look cool, it can help make Ryan’s Batwoman stand out from Kate. At the same time, curly hair may not always stick, as some posters in the Batwoman 2 season have shown Ryan in a different style.

Still, it is interesting to hear Leslie, Dries, and Mani being inspired by the art of the fans. When it comes to new broadcast announcements, fans are often quick to think about how the actor or actress will look like a character, and Leslie’s hiring as the new CW Batwoman has led to the killing of new pieces.

This is a wonderful example of how fan intelligence can lead to positive ideas. Fans were thrilled with the hope that Ryan had curly natural hair, and that met with the Batwoman art team. It will be interesting to see Ryan’s Batsuit in action when it finally starts operating before season 2.
