Here’s all you need to know about Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold phone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 flagship foldable, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2023, does not reinvent the wheel.
Instead, Samsung has decided to fine-tune its flagship product, with the main differences between the Fold and its predecessor being a redesigned hinge and an updated processor.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Design
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5’s design is best described as a slimmed-down Fold 4. It weighs 10g less than the Fold 4 at 253g and is somewhat slimmer in both folded and unfolded modes; it also looks remarkably similar to last year’s model, featuring a matte glass back panel acting as the only non-screen surface. It offers a pleasant grip to what could otherwise be an unappealing slab of the phone; otherwise, Samsung has utilized the same protective aluminum for the body and hinge.
Overall, the phone appears identical to last year’s model, and the two hues are similar.
The phone is available in Phantom Black, Cream, and a new Icy Blue shade, with Samsung, hinting at further colorways that would be limited to its online store. The phone is dust and water-resistant to IPX8 standards.
Price and Availability
On July 26, Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is currently available for pre-order and will ship on August 11.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is one of the most pricey smartphones on the market, costing $1,799.99. It’s a shame Samsung can’t include the compatible S Pen in the pricing.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 6.2-inch cover display on the exterior. When you open the phone, you’ll see a 7.6-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. (A 60Hz panel remains on the outer panel.)
Samsung continues with a tall external display by retaining the boards at their sizes and aspect ratios.

Camera and Battery Features
If the changes made to the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s screens are minor, they are absent when it involves the phone’s cameras.
It’s less encouraging to see the 4MP under-display camera back, as it was one of the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s poor aspects, but it’s there on the Z Fold 5.
Samsung has made no changes to the battery configuration or charging speed of the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The new gadget has the same 4,400 mAh battery, charging 25W through a cable connection.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Smartphone Platform for Galaxy powers the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The CPU is supported by 12GB of RAM regardless of storage level.
That means you should be able to launch several apps, play games, stream video, and generally stress the phone without affecting performance.
The promise of quicker performance comes with the new silicon. This indicates that the phone is responsive and capable of performing various tasks, including photography, online browsing, video content, and multitasking.
You can see the phone’s performance possibilities when you utilize the optional S Pen, which is meant not to harm the flexible screen’s thin, plastic cover.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 sports stereo speakers on opposing sides of the foldable phone for audio. The phone accepts physical and eSIM cards, WiFi 6e, and Bluetooth 5.3; it is also 5G-ready.
If you can stomach the exorbitant asking price, you’ll be rewarded with a phone with fantastic performance, all-day battery life, superb speakers, and a large foldable display that’s a joy to use.
However, if you despise the thinness of the outside screen or the device’s inescapable size, consider if a folding phone like this is right for you.
