The upcoming four-part television miniseries ‘Tom Jones’ is a re-imagination of the 1749 comic novel of one of the first English novelists Henry Fielding- ‘The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling’ which is one of the first classics of English literature.
Gwyneth Hughes has adapted the script with Georgia Parris serving as director. Though the storyline of the series has yet not been disclosed, it can be easily surmised that the plot will be based on Fielding’s original novel involving the titular protagonist Tom Jones who is a bastard, the heroine Sophy, Blifil who is Tom’s rival, Squire Allworthy who is Tom’s guardian, etc.

When Is Tom Jones Releasing?
Adapter and executive producer Gwyneth Hughes has called Fielding’s text “the mother of all romcoms”. Other executive producers teamed up with her in 2021.
The entire filming occurred in Northern Ireland. Solly McLeod and Sophie Wilde were announced to be the main cast members at that time with Hannah Waddingham joining the cast in November of 2021.
PBS released an official preview of the upcoming series on YouTube on January 18, 2023. It is set to release on 30th April this year in the United States.

Cast Members of ‘Tom Jones’ Season 1:
Solly McLeod-
British actor Solly McLeod has been cast in the role of the protagonist and titular Tom Jones in the upcoming series. Previously McLeod appeared in the British supernatural crime drama series ‘The Rising‘ in 2022.
That year he also played Ser Joffrey Lonmouth in HBO‘s ‘Game of Thrones prequel ‘House of the Dragon‘. MacLeod is also set to star in two upcoming series ‘Jericho Ridge’ and ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’.
Sophie Wilde-
Playing the heroine of the classic Sophia, Sophie Wilde has been cast in the upcoming series. She also played the lead character Mia in the Australian supernatural horror movie ‘Talk to Me‘ in 2022.
She will star as Sophie Pentigel in the upcoming Australian movie ‘The Portable Door’ set to be released in 2023. She is also set to star in the miniseries ‘Uncalculated’.
Hannah Waddingham-
As Lady Bellaston we will see Primetime Emmy Award-winning British actress Hannah Waddingham in the upcoming series. Her previous television credits include ‘Benidorm’, ‘Partners in Crime’, ‘Game of Thrones‘, ‘Krypton’, ‘Sex Education‘, ‘And Ted Lasso‘.
James Fleet-
Portraying the famous character of Squire Allworthy we will find English actor James Fleet in the upcoming series. His previous television credits are ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, ‘A Dance to the Music of Time’, ‘Brotherly Love ‘, ‘Chambers’, ‘Partners in Crime’ etc.
Shirley Henderson-
Scottish actress Shirley Henderson will be playing Aunt Western in the upcoming miniseries. She portrayed Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter series. Her previous television credits include ‘Hamish Macbeth’, ‘The Way We Live Now’, ‘Dirty Filthy Love’, ‘Southcliffe’ etc.
Alun Armstrong-
The character of Squire Western will be played by English character actor Alun Armstrong in the upcoming miniseries. British actress Pearl Mackie will be seen in the role of Honour in the upcoming series. Mackie portrayed Bill Potts, the companion of the Twelfth Doctor in the tenth season of ‘Doctor Who‘.
