Dear David: Release Date, Cast, Plot, And More!

In 2017, a wave of multimedia storytelling began to appear on Twitter, of all places. Storytellers utilize existing accounts or create new ones to share fictional stories. However, because of the nature of Tweets, these stories appeared to be true. Dear David was one of the most popular of those accounts.

Dear David started as a series of Tweets from the talented mind of Adam Ellis, in which Ellis described ghostly events he had begun to have in his house. The haunting seemed to turn sinister as the story progressed.

Ellis’ Dear David became so famous partly because of its terrifyingly convincing visual and pictorial evidence, and many people couldn’t decide if it was genuine.

When BuzzFeed Studios and Lionsgate Films acquired the rights to Dear David in 2018 to make it into a feature film, the mystery behind the haunting was revealed to be fictitious.

Dear David’s cast is impressive, including well-known actors and staff members. Justin Long, well known for his role in Galaxy Quest & Jeepers Creepers, will play the primary role of Bryce.

John McPhail directs Dear David, well known for his work on Anna and the Apocalypse & Where Do We Go From Here? Dear David is turning out to be a fantastic adaptation of Adam Ellis’ Twitter thread, with such a strong cast and team on board.

The Plot

Dear David’s original Twitter account spoke of Adam Ellis, a previous BuzzFeed employee haunted by the spirit of a little kid named David.

Because there is yet to be a trailer or official page for Dear David, the scope of the adaptation’s changes to the original plot is unknown. While the film will not include an actor playing Ellis in a significant part, the plot is similar to the original.

The original thread on Twitter may still be viewed for further details. However, after BuzzFeed purchased the rights, Ellis only had time to finish the piece.

Throughout this thread and several more until December 2017, Ellis describes his interactions with the ghost that haunts him. The ghost visits him at night in dreams or during bouts of sleep paralysis until David begins to feel his presence at all day hours.

In addition, Ellis’ cats behave strangely, so Ellis sets audio recorders to capture weird noises throughout the night. Ellis’s fantasies eventually become a reality, with marks appearing on his body and photos catching paranormal oddities in his flat, among other things.

There’s a lot of material to convert into a feature film, so we’re excited to see how the Dear David film turns out.
