His Dark Materials Season 3 and final season is adapted from the third novel ‘The Amber Spyglass, which was announced in December 2020.

The renewed fantasy drama series HBO- His Dark Materials is adapted from the same named novel trilogy of English writer Philip Pullman. Bad Wolf and New Line Productions produced this series for HBO and BBC One.

The premise of the series primarily revolves around an orphan girl named Lyra looking for a missing friend while trying to discover a kidnapping plot involving Dust, a certain invisible cosmic substance.

The first season of the series premiered on HBO internationally on November 4, 2019, and one day prior to that on BBC One. The second season was released in the UK on November 8, 2020, and in the US on November 16 the same year.

The plot is set in a multi-world reality. In that alternative world, the souls of humans manifest as animal companions known as daemons. A religious and political body called Magisterium governs the world.

The His Dark Materials Season 3 will find the main antagonist of the story Lord Asriel assembling the greatest army from every world to wage a war to take on the Authority.

As we have seen at the end of season 2, protagonist Lyra Belacqua is seen back with Mrs. Coulter, her mother. She is now on the run as Magisterium has ordered Father Gomez to find her dead or alive.

The main character Lyra Belacqua is played by British Spanish actress Dafne Keen in the series who will be reprising this role in the final season too. Keen made her film debut in 2017 in the American superhero movie ‘Logan‘ in the role of Laura.

Then in 2020, she played the titular character Ana in Charles McDougall’s comedy-drama movie ‘Ana’. From 2014 to 2015 Keen played the recurring role of Ana Cruz Oliver or Ani in the tv series ‘The Refugees’. She is also set to star in the upcoming American series ‘The Acolyte’.

James McAvoy-

Lord Asriel Belacqua, who is actually Lyra’s father, is played by Scottish actor James McAvoy in the series. His film credits include ‘The Chronicles of Barina: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, ‘Becoming Jane’, ‘The Last Station, ‘The Conspirator’, ‘X-Men: First Class, ‘Victor Frankenstein’, ‘In Chapter Two’ etc.

He also played Steve McBride in the British comedy series ‘Shameless‘ from 2004 to 2005.

Lyra’s mother Marisa Coulter and a powerful figure of Magisterium are portrayed by English actress Ruth Wilson in the series. She previously portrayed Jane Eyre in BBC’s four-part television adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s celebrated novel ‘Jane Eyre’ in 2006.

She also starred in the tv series ‘Suburban Shootout’, ‘The Prisoner’, ‘Luther’, ‘The Affair’ etc.

A secondary school student of Oxford Will Parry, whose father disappeared thirteen years ago, is played by English actor Amir Wilson in the series. In 2020 he was cast in the main role of Tiuri in the coming-of-age fantasy adventure series ‘The Letter for the King’.

The same year he also played Dickon in the same named British fantasy movie based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1911 novel ‘The Secret Garden. And in 2022 he starred in the role of Anton Milanesi in the German fantasy musical movie ‘The Magic Flute’.

Ruta Gedmintas-

Serafina Pekkala, a witch and Queen of Lake Enara witches, is starred by British actress Ruta Gedmintas in the series. She played Mary Jarvis in the British tv series ‘The Innocence Project’ from 2006 to 2007.

She was cast as the main character Olivia Chase in NBC’s 2013 medical drama series ‘Do No Harm’. From 2014 to 2017 Gedmintas played Kristen “Dutch” Velders as a recurring character in the first season and the main character in season two.

Witch queen and Lord Asriel’s former lover Ruta Skadi were introduced in the series in season two. The character is played by English actress Jade Anouka who will be reprising the role in season three too.

From 2017 to 2018 Anouka played Mark Antony/Hotspur/Ariel in the miniseries ‘The Donmar Warehouse’s All-Female Shakespeare Trilogy. In the 2018 ITV miniseries Trauma,’ she was cast as Alana Allerton.

Her other tv series include ‘Cleaning Up’, ‘Turn Up Charlie, ‘The Drowning’, ‘Beforeigners’ etc.
