First Love the series, featuring Hikari Mitsushima & Takeru Satoh, is based on songs penned and composed by J-Pop superstar Hikaru Utada and tells a magnificent love story over 20 years.

First Love Official Trailer Breakdown

The Japanese film industry is well-known for creating quality films with captivating visuals. The same can be seen in this J-drama trailer. The trailer begins with a retro montage. The plot is inspired by the songs “First Love” and “Hatsukoi” by Japanese musician Hikaru Utada. Hatsukoi, by the way, also means “first love.”

Returning to the trailer, we witness a lovely vintage montage with short scenes of what we may term a “home.”

The plot revolves around Yae Noguchi (the female lead), who aspires to be a flight attendant in the late 90s; unfortunately, she seems to be injured in an accident, as a result of which she abandons her goal and becomes a cab driver.

Harumichi Namiki, the male protagonist, was a pilot in the same era, but he left and decided to pursue other interests. Returning to the trailer, we see the male hero still looking for his first love. Some bits of the trailer appear cliché, but we all are excited to learn more about the Japanese industry.

There are several lovely moments between the two of them, who look fantastic together. We witness short memories of when the two were young and in love in 1998.

Later in the trailer, we watch how he begins to cry when they finally reunite after years apart. Yae Noguchi, on the other hand, states she does not trust fate, and a man advises her not to run away from it.

Moving on, we see glimpses of how their lives are so unlike, but they appear to be in love in the same way. The trailer has some sweet and bitter bits between them, but they don’t give away too much, which we always appreciate in Netflix trailers.

In the trailer, we also see a guy saying he will protect her; possibly, there is a love triangle angle as well because there is no way the leads haven’t met other people in 20 years. In the clip, Yae Noguchi is also shown drinking a lot, which suggests that she is despondent, maybe because she had to give up her dreams.
