The Crown will have season 6 as its final one. In an interview, director Peter Morgan shared this. He said that when the writers were discussing the plot of season 5, it was concluded that a minimum of 2 seasons will be required to maintain the richness of the series.
What About the Queen’s Death?
After the sudden death of Queen Elizabeth, the production team decided that they are stopping work on the new season. The director, Peter Morgan also shared that the makers already included the end of the Queen’s life in the story. He said that it was done to mark respect for her glorious life.

The Cast of The Crown Season 6
Makers have confirmed that no major changes will be done in the leading cast. Everyone’s favorite Imelda Staunton will be Queen Elizabeth II, Dominic West will return as Prince William while Prince Charles and Princess Diana will be played by Jonathan Pryce and Dominic West respectively. Renewal Status
The OTT giant Netflix has not confirmed a release date yet. But if we look at the previous seasons, all of them arrived in the months of November and December. Plus every season had a gap of 1 year except season 5 which was recently released after 2 years of season 4.
According to these calculations, we can expect The Crown season 6 in November 2023. Although, as we told you guys earlier in the article, the makers have stopped filming the new season. This sudden break can cause a delay in the release of the upcoming season.
The Plot
The makers have said that the upcoming season will not cover recent events of the royal family. This means that the fans will not be able to see the wedding of Prince Charles and Meghan, their whole walking out of the royal family drama, and the most extreme of them all, the queen’s death.
Although, season 6 might travel all the way to 2002 to show the cinematic view regarding the deaths of Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. It is expected that the first meeting of Prince William and Kate Middleton will also be covered since it happened in 2001.
Talking about global events, season 6 is expected to cover 9/11, the invasion of Afghanistan, and the 2000 Olympics which were held in Australia.
