After the 2020 superhero movie ‘The Old Guard’, a sequel is finally coming three years later with Charlize Theron as the leading star. Gina Prince-Bythewood directed this superhero movie which was adapted from the same-named comic book written by Greg Rucka.
The plot of the film revolves around a group of mercenaries who are centuries-old immortals and have the ability to heal themselves. But when they discover someone who wants to discover their secret, they become compelled to fight for their freedom.
Charlize Theron was introduced in this movie as Andy. The revenge mission of the mercenary group will be returning in the name of ‘The Old Guard 2’.
Victoria Mahoney has directed the sequel movie that is also adapted from Greg Rucka’s same-named comic book. Theron also serves as the producer of the film with others. Soon after the release of the first movie, author Greg Rucka and actor Charlize Theron expressed their interest in making a sequel movie.
The sequel was first greenlit on January 27, 2021. In August Gina Prince-Bythewood was replaced by Victoria Mahoney as director. Gina has served as a producer though for the sequel movie. Primary photography of the film started in June 2022. Any particular plotline of the series is yet to be announced.

The Old Guard 2 Cast Members
Almost all the main cast members of the first movie will be back for the sequel. That include Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Charlize Theron-
Theron played Andromache of Scythia aka Andy in the 2020 film ‘The Old Guard’. She is a centuries-old warrior using her experience to work as a mercenary whose mission is to help people. Theron will be seen reprising this role in the sequel film too.
Academy award winner Theron starred in a number of series and films previously. In 2004 for her role as Aileen Wuornos aka Lee in the biographical crime ‘Monster’ she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
She was nominated for two more Academy Award nominations under the category of Best Actress for starring in the 2005 movie ‘North Country’ and the 2019 movie ‘Bombshell’. For these three films, Theron also received nominations for BAFTA Awards as Best Film Actress in a Leading Role.
For her tv role as Britt Ekland in the 2004 television film ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, she was nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Kiki Layne-
Playing the U.S. Marine of Afghanistan Nile Freeman will also reprise her role in the sequel. She starred in the romantic drama movie ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ as Tish Rivers in 2018.
Her other films are ‘Native Son, ‘Captive State, ‘The Staggering Girl’, ‘Coming to 2 America’, ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Don’t Worry Darling, etc.
Marwan Kenzari-
Joe is another centuries-old warrior of the story who is played by Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari in the 2020 movie and will be reprised by him in the sequel too.
He portrayed the evil wizard Jafar in the 2019 musical fantasy movie ‘Aladdin’ which is the live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated ‘Aladdin‘, based on the famous tale from ‘Arabian Nights. He also played Majid Zamari in the Dutch action martial arts movie ‘Wolf’ which was released in 2013.
Luca Marinelli-
Nicky, the star-crossed lover of Joe, is played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli in both films. He previously starred in the films The Solitude of Prime Numbers, ‘The Last Man on Earth, ‘Every Blessed Day’, ‘The Great Beauty, ‘Don’t Be Bad’, ‘They Call Me Jeeg’, ‘Rainbow: A Private Affair, ‘Martin Eden’, ‘Diabolik’, ‘The Eight Mountains’, etc.
Veronica Ngo-
Veronica Ngo will be seen reprising her role as Quynh, Andy’s former roommate n the upcoming movie. Ngo is a Vietnamese actress and singer who appeared in the movies Saigon Love Story’, ‘The Rebel’, ‘Clash’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Vietnam’, ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, ‘The Tailor’, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, ‘Bright’, ‘Furie’, ‘Da 5 Bloods’, ‘The Princess, etc.
Matthias Schoenaerts-
Another centuries-old warrior Booker will be portrayed by Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts in the upcoming film 2020.
His best-known movies are ‘Danes’, ‘Loft’, ‘Bullhead’, ‘Rust and Bone, ‘The Drop’, ‘Suite Francaise’, ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’, ‘The Danish Girl, ‘Red Sparrow’, ‘Disorder’, ‘The Mustang’ etc.
Malaysian-British actor Henry Golding and American actress Uma Thurman have joined the cast of the upcoming movie.
Release Date of ‘The Old Guard 2’:
Filming of ‘The Old Guard 2’ has been completed in September of 2022. Any official release date has yet not been announced, but it is presumed that the film will release early the next year on Netflix.
