On the front row of the Michael Kors presentation on Wednesday, life imitated art when allocated seating placed Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and actress Anne Hathaway next to each other in a PR masterstroke.
On Wednesday (September 14), Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour embody The Devil Wears Prada while sitting together at the Michael Kors Collection Spring/Summer 2023 Runway Show at 2022 New York Fashion Week!
In The Devil Wears Prada, the 39-year-old Princess Diaries actor played Andy Sachs, a journalist who ends up as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the difficult editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, back in 2006. The 72-year-old Vogue editor is said to have inspired the narrative.
Hathaway looked exactly like her on-screen character Andrea Sachs from the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada,” dressed in a black knitted turtleneck, a chestnut brown leather coat, and her hair in a high ponytail with a harsh fringe.
The film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, follows Sachs as she awkwardly navigates the top echelons of the fashion business in pursuit of a career in journalism.
She temporarily works as the abused personal assistant of iron-fisted magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), a figure generally believed to be based on Wintour herself.
Here you can have a look at Anne Hathaway sitting with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Almost 17 years later, “The Devil Wears Prada” is still regarded as one of the most hilarious exposés of the industry’s insanity. Seeing Hathaway sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the film’s muse in an outfit that appeared ripped from her character Andrea Sachs’ wardrobe (all while in the context of a real-life fashion presentation) was a full circle moment that the internet swiftly seized.
“It’s giving Andy Sachs, 2022!” tweeted fashion watchdog Instagram account Diet Prada in a post that has received over 250,000 likes since last night.
The delightfully surreal meeting of Hathaway and Wintour caps up New York Fashion Week, which was back and larger than ever this season after February shows were canceled due to continued Covid-19 restrictions.
The beautiful paparazzi photo is so eerie that you can almost hear Priestly’s unsettling words spoken through her notoriously pursed lips: “Everyone desires this. Everyone wants to be us.”
Anne and Anna sat in the first row to see the show. They also had photographs taken with Serena Williams and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
The actress was last seen at the US Open in 2022!
