Throughout the movie, we learn that Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, has been traveling the universe because she feels guilty about the things she did after regaining her memories from the Kree mind-wipe. She tried to free the Kree from the control of the Supreme Intelligence, a powerful computer program.

However, her actions unintentionally caused a lot of damage to the Kree’s home planet, Hala, especially its dying sun. In the process, he becomes known as the “Annihilator.”

Dar-Benn discovers Quantum Bands, objects that can manipulate time and space. Meanwhile, Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, finds the other Quantum Band. Dar-Benn tries to use them to drain Earth’s sun, leading to a dangerous situation.

Monica Rambeau, another superhero, steps in to save the day by using her powers. Although the universe is saved, Monica ends up trapped in another dimension. In the end, Captain Marvel returns to the stars to reignite Hala’s sun and save the Kree Empire.

In The Marvels, Kamala Khan’s journey not only involves facing a world-threatening danger but also brings her family into the mix when Kree soldiers become part of the entanglement.

By the end of the film, though, Muneeba and Kamala reach an understanding that Kamala must use her powers to protect the Earth. Inspired by working with Carol and Monica, Kamala decides to form her own superhero team, starting with recruiting Kate Bishop.

Marvel Comics fans will recognize this as the beginning of the Young Avengers, a superhero team that Kate was a founding member of.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Kamala has formed a team; she previously led the Champions during the events of Civil War II, a team of teenage superheroes that included characters like Nova and Spider-Man (Miles Morales).

The movie’s final scene hints at a potential Young Avengers or Champions project in the works at Marvel Studios, and fans are excited, especially given Iman Vellani’s excellent performance and her passion for the source material.
