Top 10 Horror Movies to Watch in 2023!
Infinity Pool-
Brandon Cronenberg directed this sci-fi horror movie the plot of which finds a struggling novelist and his wife vacationing at a resort in Li Tolqa, a fictional seaside country, where they find themselves embroiled in the dark culture of the country.
Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman played the married couple James and Em Foster respectively in the movie with Mia Goth and Jalil Lespert in other roles. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year on 22nd January.
Abruptio-
The plot of this puppet horror movie is centered upon a Down-trodden man named Les Hackel who finds an explosive device implanted in his neck which compels him to carry out heinous crimes in order to stay alive while trying to find out who the mastermind behind this manipulation is.
James Marsters played the role of Les Hackel in the movie. It premiered at Santa Monica Film Festival on 17th January this year.
Evil Dead Rise-
Lee Cronin directed this supernatural horror movie that serves as the fifth installment of the Evil Dead film series.
The plot follows two sisters reuniting after remaining long estranged and finding themselves in a primal battle for survival against flesh-possessing demons.
Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland played the roles of Beth and Ellie respectively in the movie. It was released in the United States on the 21st of April this year.
Scream VI-
This slasher film serves as a sequel to the 2022 movie ‘Scream‘ as well as the sixth installment of the Scream film series. The plot finds four survivors of Ghostface murders leaving Woodsboro to begin anew.
But while they seek a fresh start in New York City, they come across another new killer who leads them in a fight to survive a bloody rampage. The movie was released this year in the United States on 10th March.
Beau Is Afraid-
Ari Aster directed this surrealist tragicomedy horror movie the plot of which follows a man named Beau who is mild-mannered but ridden with paranoia.
While on the journey through a surreal odyssey whose destination is to attend the funeral of his mother at home, he comes across the greatest fears of his life. Joaquin Phoenix portrayed Beau Wassermann in the movie.
Other supporting members of the ensemble cast include Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Kylie Rogers, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Parker Posey, Hayley Squires, Zoe Lister-Jones, Michael Gandolfini, Richard Kind, and Armen Nahapetian. The movie was released in the United States on 14th April this year.
Cocaine Bear-
Elizabeth Banks directed this comedy horror movie that is loosely based on the true story of the American black bear known as “Cocaine Bear” which ingested almost 34 kg of lost cocaine.
The movie was released on February 24, 2023. The plot finds a vacationing family being held hostage at a remote cabin by four strangers whose demand is unimaginable. The movie was released this year on 3rd February in the United States.
Knock at the Cabin-
M. Night Shyamalan directed this apocalyptic psychological horror movie that is adapted from Paul G. Tremblay’s novel of 2018- ‘The Cabin at the End of the World’.
The Pope’s Exorcist-
Julius Avery directed this supernatural horror movie. The film chronicles a detailed portrait of such a priest who, throughout his life, performed more than one hundred thousand exorcisms.
The plot is centered upon Father Gabriele Amorth, who is the chief exorcist for the Vatican, battling Satan as well as demons who possess innocent people.
The movie is based on two books written by Father Gabriele Amorth himself. New Zealand-born actor Russell Crowe portrayed Father Gabriele Amorth in the movie. It was released in the United States this year on 14th April.
Tin & Tina-
This Spanish-language psychological horror thriller movie follows two orphaned twins. They have received a strict education in a convent where a young couple adopts them. But the twins’ obsessions with religion soon begin to disrupt the sanity of the family.
Carlos González Morollón and Anastasia Russo played the roles of Tin and Tina respectively in the movie. It was released in Spain on 31st March this year.
The Nun 2-
Michael Chaves directed this gothic supernatural horror movie that is a sequel to the 2018 movie ‘The Nun‘ and serves as the ninth installment of The Conjuring Universe franchise.
The plot is set four years after the ending of the previous film. It brings back Sister Irene once again facing the demonic force of Valak, known as the Nun, this time at a boarding school in France.
Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons reprised the roles of Sister Irene and The Nun respectively in the movie. It was released on 8th September this year.
