They had s*x at the end of the night, reigniting the romance in their union. The wrench shows up when they call for a cab, and the driver turns out to be the man who Clare almost had a s*xual encounter with when she was living elsewhere.
Danny realizes something is up because of the awkwardness that is occurring between her and the driver. She changes the subject when he inquires about it since she doesn’t want the mistake to ruin the progress they have made.
That weekend, Clare departs for a writing retreat. He sits her down and uses her words to inform her that he wants to end their relationship when she returns from the retreat. Clare is shocked to learn that her husband broke up with her on her advice.
