Recap Of Schmigadoon!
Melissa and Josh, both doctors in New York City, embark on a backpacking trip together in the first season of the show in an effort to save their deteriorating relationship, but they return home to find that they haven’t stopped fighting.
They find out that they are unable to leave Schmigadoon unless they find “true love,” which they find out after getting lost and discovering a mythical town named Schmigadoon, which is permanently imprisoned in a musical in the style of the Golden Era. The musical Brigadoon from 1947 is imitated in the title and plot.
In season two, Melissa and Josh, who are now married, find their lives as doctors in New York City to be monotonous.
They search for the quaint village of Schmigadoon but ultimately end up in “Schmicago,” a world that parodies s*xy, dark musicals from the 1960s and 1970s, where they must find a “happy ending” in order to leave. Chicago, a 1975 musical, is imitated in the title.

Schmigadoon! Season 2 Ending Explained: Did Josh & Melissa Left Schmigadoon! In Season 2?
‘Schmigadoon!’ Season 2 makes clear that Josh and Melissa did depart Schmigadoon at the conclusion of Season 1, resuming their lives as a married couple and their respective careers as OB/GYN and orthopedic surgeons in New York City.
It took Melissa and Josh some time to understand they were each other’s keys to leaving Schmigadoon in the first season of “Schmigadoon!” yet it appeared like all they wanted was to get out of the town.
Yet during that period, they also grew close to Schmigadoon and its residents, and it was there that they once more discovered their love for one another.
As a result, it wasn’t shocking when Josh and Melissa chose to go back to Schmigadoon in the season 2 premiere of “Schmigadoon!” However, rather than discovering the friends they had made, such as Emma Tate or Mayor Aloysius Menlove, they found themselves in what appeared to be a new musical realm called Schmicago, which was a play on the musical Chicago that had premiered in 1975.
The first season of “Schmigadoon!” imitated Golden Period musicals from the 1940s and 1950s, whereas in “Schmigadoon!” Chicago, Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, and many darker musicals from the 1960s and 1970s are parodied in Season 2.

Why Did Josh & Melissa Again Decide To Go Back To Schmigadoon?
Season 1 of “Schmigadoon!” had the overarching theme of finding true love and happy endings. There are many well-known love songs from Golden Age musicals that can be parodied, such as “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific and “Till There Was You” from The Music Man.
Despite the presence of love, the musicals of the 1960s and 1970s don’t have happy endings, as Melissa points out in Season 2 of “Schmigadoon!” Josh and Melissa have been experiencing their happy ending between “Schmigadoon!” seasons 1 and 2, but it isn’t as wonderful as they had hoped.
Although they have returned to the daily routine of their life that initially drove them apart, there is no longer a problem with a lack of affection between them.
Instead, Josh and Melissa are struggling with infertility, which is made more difficult by Melissa’s everyday interactions with pregnant patients at work.
