Mindy Kaling Slams Haters on Instagram

Mindy Kaling wouldn’t be a woman on the internet if she didn’t receive unwanted remarks on Instagram about her weight and eating habits.

On December 21, the Sex Lives of College Girls author shared a snapshot of an enticing but otherwise ordinary excursion to Pijja Palace in Los Angeles.

“Swipe through many images of me eating wonderful @pijjapalace food to earn one photo of me and @ericaflener,” Kaling captioned photographs from her excursion, which featured pizza, hot wings, spaghetti, and more.

But when she got an uninvited “concerned” comment about her eating habits, she decided to put the record straight once and for all.

Of course, the post was quickly swamped with criticism and “worry” over Kaling’s dinner and weight, notably a conspiracy theory that she didn’t finish the items on her plate.

There were enough comments, ranging from highly condescending to well-intentioned (remember, even well-intentioned comments should be kept to oneself), that Kaling addressed a couple of them directly. “Oh baby, I ATE,” she replied to a reader who said, “I don’t see any actual eating here, but alright.”

“There is no eating in these photographs,” commented another devotee. “I’m just saying because it’s a little terrifying, and I’ve been there.” While Kaling assured them that eating is “not my problem,” she also praised the fan for “being sweet.”

This isn’t the first time Kaling has discussed her approach to healthy eating. In an interview in April, she stated that the epidemic had significantly altered her dieting experience.

“I had to shoot a movie two months after having my baby, so I was like, ‘Just give me grilled salmon and sautéed spinach.’ I’m going to eat that for three months,” she explained.

However, Kaling’s salmon and spinach diet did not recur after her second pregnancy since she did not “have those stresses” of returning to work.

“I had my son in September 2020, during the first year of the epidemic,” she stated.

“It was the practically indefinite maternity leave. I wasn’t going to go on camera since the studios had been closed.”

“When the world began to return a little bit, I realized, ‘This type of consuming what appears, without regard for what I’m eating, is definitely not the way to go,'” she says. Kaling went on.

“To be honest, I didn’t do anything differently. I eat whatever I want. Any type of restricted diet I try never works for me. I simply eat less of it… I wish there was something more meaty or exciting about how I’ve shed a few pounds, but that’s how I’ve done it.”
