Asus Zenfone 9: Price, Design, Performance, and Much More

Asus Zenfone 9: The Zenfone 9 is Asus’s continuation of the previous generation’s compact form-factor flagship. Smaller phones have traditionally sacrificed features and performance, but that is not the case here.

At least not completely. Asus is attempting to condense a full-fledged affordable flagship experience into one of the market’s smaller form factors.

Asus Zenfone 9: Price

The Asus Zenfone 9 will soon be available in many parts of the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

The Zenfone 9 has a suggested retail price of $699 in the United States for the base 8GB/128GB model, while the same model starts at €799 in Europe.

Design

Asus Zenfone 9

The Zenfone 9’s claim to fame is that it is a flagship in a small package. The Asus Zenfone 9 would look like a by-the-numbers ‘chocolate-bar’ style smartphone if it weren’t so small.

It’s smaller than most other Android phones on the market. This makes it very easy to use with one hand, especially when compared to other mega-mobiles available at the same price.

Because the dual camera module occupies a significant portion of the real estate on the back of the ZenFone 9, I occasionally accidentally touched or rested my fingers on it.

At 9.1mm thick, it’s not the thinnest phone on the market, but it’s far from chunky, and that very slight extra thickness feels insignificant when you consider how compact the phone is overall.

Performance

The Zenfone 9 is a powerhouse regarding performance, thanks to the inside Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. It’s one of the most powerful Android phones available right now, with only gaming phones like the ROG Phone 6 Pro producing comparable benchmark results.

It is supported by 8-16GB of RAM and has storage options of 128 or 256GB, so there are several model options to choose from. Unfortunately, there is no microSD support, but dual SIM is available.

Cameras

Asus Zenfone 9

With two rear cameras, the Asus Zenfone 9 cannot compete with many other phones in its price range. However, on the Zenfone 9, Asus went all out with the camera hardware. A 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor is paired with a 12MP IMX363 ultrawide sensor. The phone’s selfie camera is a 12MP IMX663 with autofocus and EIS.

However, the main camera is supported by a miniature three-axis gimbal stabilization system, which keeps the lens floating. As a result, you can see the lens shift as you move the phone around.

Battery Life

While the Zenfone’s 4,300mAh battery may appear on the small side for most phones, this isn’t an issue here due to its small display.

To ensure you don’t overcharge your phone, Asus has a few battery health features, including one that lets you set the time the phone should be fully charged by each morning. Techniques like this ensure that the phone lasts longer before the battery health deteriorates.
