Season 1 of Shadow and Bone took place in a war-torn world where a lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov resides. In a sudden turn of events, Alina finds that she has rare abilities- she is the Sun Summoner. As a result of her discovery, Alina is taken in and trained as a Grisha, an elite army of magical soldiers.
She realizes her extraordinary powers could be the key to freeing her country. But as the knowledge of her powers spread across the land, it brought malicious forces upon her. As all adventure tropes go, the hero finds friends who help them along in the journey and foes who plot to bring them down.
The exact plot of Season 2 of Shadow and Bone is unknown but the story will continue with all the main players from Season 1. The second season of the show will be an adaptation of the second book in the Grishaverse- Siege, and Storm.
In Siege and Storm, Alina joins forces with her childhood friend/love interest to fight a renewed and reinvigorated Kirigan to save her country from his dark powers. In the process, she is also struggling to gain the strength she needs to defeat Kirigan.

When talking about the renewal of the show, showrunner Eric Heisserer said that he is thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the story of the beloved characters.
The writer of the books Leigh Bardugo stated that she is thrilled that the adventure gets to keep going as there are so many places that they still have to show to the audience and also introduce them to the many saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make up the world of Shadow and Bone.
Netflix renewed the show for Season 2 in June. There hasn’t been a release date as the announcement is very recent but it is likely that Shadow and Bone will return in 2022 because of the COVID-19 limitations on production.
