A very sad news was announced recently which has left the entertainment world, and especially anime fans and community in a state of grief as Akira Toriyama has passed away at the age of 68.
Who is Akira Toriyama?
He was born in Japan and started his career as a manga artist and character designer. Akira faced lots of rejections early on in his career but he kept on going with his passion to create something out of the world.
Akira finally got rewarded for his hard work and his manga series Dr. Slump became a hit and was later created as an anime series.
Akira’s major success came with the popular series Dragon Ball Z which went on to become one of the most popular manga/anime series of all time and it gained even more popularity in Western countries.
The popularity of Dragon Ball Z was the sole reason for the anime’s growth outside of Japan. After the success of DBZ, Toriyama went on to create several other successful series and DBZ kept on growing for more than 15 years. Akira also designed characters for XBOX 360 and worked with 20th Century Fox.

Akira Toriyama Demise
Akira was known to live a very private life and didn’t socialize much, much of the updates regarding his work and professional life were shared by his production company Bird Studio.
On 8th March, Bird Studio issued an announcement where they reported that Akira Toriyama had passed away on March 1 due to acute subdural hematoma, a condition in which blood vessels burst in the brain causing a pool of blood causing numerous symptoms and death in some cases if left undiagnosed.
It’s still not clear what caused the injury in Akira’s head but several reports have claimed that he was scheduled to undergo a brain tumour surgery last month. Toriyama’s funeral took place on March 1st in the presence of his close family members, more updates are yet to be released.
