A prized script for New Year’s on Netflix will be Boys Swallows Universe – an interesting Aussie drama based on the book by Trent Dalton with the same name. What we know about the series is that it is confirmed to premiere in January 2024!
The show has been brought to life by Dalton and actor-cum-producer, Joel Edgerton (you might remember him from Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Troy Lum from Brouhaha Entertainment, whilst the script credit of the series goes to John Collee (Hotel Mumbai, Happy Feet), and some of the episodes are confirmed to be directed by Emmy nominee Bharat Nalluri, with Jocelyn Moorhouse and Kim Mordaunt on board.
The Synopsis of the Boy Swallows Universe:
The plotline of the series revolves around Brisbane in 1983 where a lost father, a mute brother, and a mother are rotting in jail – in addition to this, we know there is a heroin dealer for a stepfather and the characters are all surrounding a notorious crime for a babysitter.
Eli’s life is pretty complicated as it is, and he’s just trying his best to be a good man and follow his heart but life throwing obstacle after obstacle his way (not to mention, legendary Brisbane drug dealer Tytus Broz).
However, with the likes of things happening – Eli’s life will possibly take a turn for more drama as events slowly start to unfold – like for instance, falling in love and breaking his mum out of Boggo Road Gaol on Christmas Day to save her.
Boys Swallow Universe is a truly special story with a load of brotherhood, love, and the most unlikely of friendships.
