No One Will Save You

No One Will Save You
Variety

No One Will Save You may not have had a chance to stand out on the big screen, but this film was the clear winner among Hulu original films this year.

From start to finish, this is Dever’s film, and she sells it like an absolute scream queen when aliens overrun her remote house.

The title of the film sets up Brynn’s situation. She can’t rely on anyone to help her against this alien threat. But Brynn’s worst troubles are within, as she fights with regret and the true reason she’s the village outcast.

Duffield conveys all of this nearly entirely through the film’s visuals, which should open up many doors for him in the future.

Quiz Lady

NBC News

Who hasn’t fantasized about winning big on a game show and using the money to improve their lives? Anne (Awkwafina) is a trivia expert who knows all of the answers to the questions on Can’t Stop the Quiz.

When her puppy is stolen as a ransom for her mother’s gambling issues, Anne joins hands with her sister Jenny (Sandra Oh) to go on a road trip all over the country to go on a television show and get the money they need.

Because Anne is a tightly knit stress ball and Jenny is a crazy hot mess, the journey is an emotional rollercoaster. Their opposing personalities, however, could be a winning mix.

Flamin Hot

It was nearly distressing to find that the story of Flaming Hot Cheetos was probably not true. However, the idea of Flamin’ Hot is so strong that believing the feel-good lie is more soothing than criticizing the film.

Jesse Garcia plays Richard Montaez, a former gang member who changed his life with the help of his wife, Judy Montaez (Annie Gonzalez).

While striving to make ends meet for his family, Richard cheerfully accepts a job as a caretaker at a Frito-Lay factory. When Richard learns that Frito-Lay CEO Roger Enrico (Tony Shalhoub) has urged all employees to ‘think like a CEO,’ he takes the initiative to develop Flaming Hot Cheetos before going over his boss’s head to set up a pitch meeting. If we had to choose between that story and what happened, we would choose the former.

Infinity Pool

Infinity Pool

Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool is a surreal and dark blend of science fiction and horror. The film focuses on James Foster, a struggling writer looking for inspiration, and takes place in a picture-perfect resort where something terrible rages below the surface.

After getting caught in a car crash, James finds an underground hedonistic society that performs awful things only to create clones and punish them in their place.

Known by critics for its disturbing imagery and style, Infinity Pool solidifies Cronenberg’s place as a prominent actor in modern horror.

Jagged Mind

Jagged Mind
Bloody Disgusting

This one will catch you off guard. Jagged Mind has a few parallels to Groundhog Day, although it has far fewer feel-good moments. Instead, when Billie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) meets & falls for Alex (Shannon Woodward), it’s like a dating horror story. Billie notices right away that something is wrong with her memory.

Still, she incorrectly concludes that her blackouts and missing time are symptoms of a neurological condition that runs in her family.

Billie eventually realizes she is trapped in a time loop, and the reason for this is directly tied to Alex’s actions and desires. Alex is far from the ideal partner, and she seems to go from abusive to lovely at the drop of a hat. Billie had few choices for escaping the relationship, which appears doomed to repeat itself.
