In the renowned author’s 1838 book, the title character, often referred to as Jack Dawkins, is a pickpocket noted for his cleverness. The work and character had such an impact that nowadays if someone is skilled at deceiving people, they are referred to as an Artful Dodger.
Although the full clip has yet to be released, Hulu has offered a teaser trailer to look at the legendary character and story.
We’ll find how much pressure the Dodger faces to hide his background and a peek at his relationship with Lady Belle and Fagin trying to cause some trouble.

In the latest trailer for Hulu’s Dickens-inspired TV series, The Artful Dodger is on a spree from his past in 19th-century Australia.
In the video, Jack Dawkins, the famed London pickpocket from Charles Dickens’s novel Oliver Twist, is exiled to Australia, where he has established a new life as a doctor and is beginning to fit himself into high society.
Unfortunately, his history has returned, haunting him in the form of Fagin, the head of the Dodger’s band of teenage criminals back in England, who has now arrived in Australia for unknown reasons.
Fagin and Dawkins’ insatiable desire for crime threatens to jeopardize Dawkins’ new life, including a growing relationship with Lady Belle Fox. The trailer offers daring heists, horrific 19th-century medicine, a gun duel on the beach, and Hawkins’ haunting gallows.
The Artful Dodger, a brilliant pickpocket, and aspiring criminal, is one of Oliver Twist’s most memorable characters.
Despite his age, he has the intelligence and wit of a much older man and dresses in ill-fitting men’s clothing. When enlisted into Fagin’s gang, he meets the orphan Oliver Twist but regrets that Oliver is a poor criminal – and eventually betrays him to save himself.

The Cast and Character of The Artful Dodger.
Jack Dawkins, called the Artful Dodger, is played by actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster. He is known for his roles as Ferb in Phineas and Ferb on Disney Channel, Jojen Reed in HBO‘s Game of Thrones, & Benny Watts in Netflix‘s The Queen’s Gambit. Maia Mitchell, from The Fosters and Good Trouble, plays Lady Belle Fox, who joins him on screen.
Andrea Demetriades, Luke Carroll, Huw Higginson, Lucy-Rose Leonard, Nicholas Burton, Miranda Tapsell, Tim Minchin, Vivienne, Awosoga, Susie Porter, Kym Gyngell, Damien Garvey, Huw Higginson, Damon Herriman, Jessica De Gouw Jude Hyland, Finn Treacy, Albert Latailakepa round out the cast.
The Artful Dodger will premiere on Hulu in the United States on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, and on Disney+ worldwide.
The series will have eight episodes available on the streaming site. It’s still being determined if the entire season will be released all at once or whether we’ll have to wait a week between installments.
