The latest trailer for Spy Kids: Armageddon has been shared, hinting that the new film has some startling similarities to one of the original films.

Following four previous movies, the latest of which was released in 2011, franchise veteran filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is returning with a Spy Kids remake film for Netflix. The forthcoming movie has a new cast and narrative while paying homage to past editions.

The clip features all of the series’ signature action and family moments. We witness kids practicing to be great spies and utilizing numerous wonderful gadgets every kid wants.

The Cast and Crew

The new Spy Kids are Patty (Everly Carganilla) & Tony Tango-Torrez (Connor Esterson). Terrence and Nora Tango-Torrez are played by Zachary Levi (Shazam!) & Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), respectively.

Billy Magnussen plays Rey “The King” Kingston, and D.J. Cotrona and Fabiola Andujar play unspecified roles.

At the time of writing, it is uncertain whether any cast members from the previous four films will feature in Armageddon.

The film has been labeled as a reboot, with many fans wondering if it is part of the original series or set in a different universe.

While Rodriguez has celebrated works like From Dusk Till Dawn & Sin City under his credit as a filmmaker, he’ll always be remembered for Spy Kids.

Rodriguez wrote and directed all four prior movies, and this time, chose to make the film a family affair as well. Rodriguez, with his son Racer Max, co-wrote Spy Kids: Armageddon.

On September 22, Spy Kids: Armageddon will be available exclusively on Netflix.
