The ‘Rustin’ Trailer Highlights The Hero Leading The 1963 March To Washington

Rustin | Official Teaser Trailer

The first trailer for Rustin, a biopic about the man who organized the historic march, Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo), has been released by Netflix.

The trailer for Rustin makes it apparent that Bayard was a true activist. He couldn’t stand by and watch it happen repeatedly because he was black, homose*xual, and had a clear view of how the American government and police were biased towards both groups.

His activism culminated in organizing a march that gathered around 250,000 people in Washington, D.C., to make their views heard.

The trailer also shows that Rustin proved to be a force to be dealt with: He was highly captivating and intelligent beyond his years, and he knew exactly what he needed to say to them to persuade others to join the march.

He also realized that the more people who participated, the less likely it was that the powers that be would ignore the protest.

So he launched an aggressive drive to get everyone together, leaving no one out – wealthy, poor, young, old, everyone had to be there since it was history.

Rustin inevitably deserved a lot more credit and recognition for his efforts to fight for civil rights and his role as an out-and-proud Black homose*xual man decades before it was even somewhat acceptable to embrace such identities.

Sixty years ago, one of the most significant protests took place in Washington, D.C., with iconic people like Martin Luther King Jr., Ella Baker, and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. came to push for fundamental human rights for Black people. But none of this would have been possible without the help of Rustin.
