Who Was Griselda Blanco?

Griselda

Griselda Blanco, known as the Black Widow or the Cocaine Godmother, was a prominent figure in the drug trade and underworld.

She was a key member of Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel and played a significant role in pioneering the cocaine industry.

Based in Miami, Blanco was responsible for orchestrating the smuggling of cocaine from Colombia to various locations such as New York, Miami, and Southern California.

Her criminal activities were accompanied by extreme violence, with Blanco being linked to at least 200 murders.

Despite her brutal nature, Blanco was also a devoted mother of four. She began her criminal career at a young age and engaged in prostitution during her teenage years. At the top of her operation, it was reported that she imported around $80 million worth of drugs per month.

In 1985, Blanco was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), but due to local corruption, she managed to avoid the death penalty and was released. She was eventually deported to Medellin, Colombia, in 2004.

Even from prison, Blanco continued to run her criminal enterprise through her son, Michael. However, her life came to a tragic end in 2012 when she was assassinated at the age of 69. She was shot twice by a motorcyclist at an open-air butcher shop in Medellin.
