The story is of Saya Kisaragi who is a normal teenager. She is a high school girl who serves as a shrine maiden of a town. She is also capable of some fighting as she is a skilled swordswoman.

This skill is charged by her father so that she can defeat a monster whose name is Elder Bairns. Elder is a monster who lives on human blood and, later on, makes Saya one of his victims.

At the end of the story, Saya reviews a very disturbing secret, not just about the town but also about herself and her friends.

Coming with the themes of adventure and horror, the series also deals with science fiction and was released on 13 January 2011. The series deals with the colonization of Mars that happened in the 21st century.

The story deals with 500 years since the first crewed ship landed on Mars. The 6 human beings or crew members of that ship were attacked by giant humanoid cockroaches who were said to be Terraformars.

They warned the crew members and sent them back to Earth. After a few years, some more humans were sent to the earth in a new version but only two were able to return to Earth.

The third expedition also comes but this time a fight has been declared between the crew members and Terraformars.
