Esposito began his acting career in the theater, performing in productions of The Me Nobody Knows, Godspell, and The Wiz.

After studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he made his feature film debut in the 1982 comedy I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.

Esposito gained widespread recognition for his performance as Buggin’ Out in Spike Lee’s acclaimed 1989 drama Do the Right Thing.
