Asus Zenfone 9: Design, Camera Features, Performance, and More!

If it weren’t so compact, the Asus Zenfone 9 would appear like a by-the-numbers ‘chocolate bar’ type smartphone.

The phone boasts a USB-C connector and a 3.5mm headphone socket, which will please wired audio enthusiasts.

In addition, there’s a volume button and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the right edge, which is relatively quick and easy to use, functioning nine times out of 10, which is better than other phones.

The enormous back camera array is one distinguishing feature, with each lens having its big circular bump. The Zenfone, unlike many similar-priced phones, features a plastic case rather than glass. However, it feels tough and has a textured grip that makes it comfortable to grasp. It comes in four colors: black, red, blue, and white.

The two colossal camera circles on the rear help set the Asus Zenfone 9 apart from its competitors. They’re enormous. This is due to the usage of a unique six-axis gimbal by both the main 50-megapixel camera as well as the 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera to help stabilize video and prevent it from seeming janky.

There is no zoom camera, even though many competitors at the same price have one; thus, if you want to go closer to a subject, you must use digital zoom or cropping. If you zoom in too far, this rarely looks well and rapidly results in grainy images.

When it comes to video, the phone supports up to 4K and 60fps recording, which many phones do, but you would be surprised to see a Pro Video option, which just a few smartphones offer.

Beyond that, there are a few more settings, but nothing particularly noteworthy; standard modes such as light trails, slow-mo, panorama, and time-lapse are all available.

Performance

Asus Zenfone 9
Asus

The Zenfone 9 performs wonderfully due to the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. It is one of the most efficient Android phones available right now. However, with, unfortunately, a 5.9-inch screen, the Zenfone isn’t designed for gaming.

Sure, it’s powerful, but there’s not enough good screen room – with your hands in place, you’re effectively covering half of the display and can hardly see any of the action.

Similarly, the screen makes video editing too inaccurate to be worthwhile. So the power is superfluous; Qualcomm’s 8-series chipsets overheat fast, even when not performing a demanding task.

Battery Life

Despite the Zenfone’s 4,300mAh battery being smaller than average for phones, this isn’t a problem because of its small display. That’s not to say the Asus’ battery life is terrible; it’s just average.

According to Asus, the phone has a battery life of 1.9 days. Charging takes 30W, which is somewhat sluggish for a premium phone, but Apple and Samsung have yet to embrace fast charging, so we can’t be too disappointed. That does imply that this phone requires overnight charging.

Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 9 offers rapid and flawless performance thanks to its powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and 8GB RAM. Topping it all off is a 4,300mAh battery that supports Fast Charging. However, regarding pricing, Asus only offers Dual cameras on the back.
