LG Tone Free T90Q: Design, Features, Performance, and More

The LG Tone Free T90Q true wireless earbuds provide decent sound and ANC, but the Dolby Atmos head track stands out, providing a degree of immersion that must be experienced to be believed.

Call quality might sometimes be poor, and rivals can improve overall audio quality. However, these buds are filled with features like Meridian EQ settings.

They’re also really comfy and feature a bacteria-busting UV charging case, which you may or may not like.

The LG Tone Free T90Q is available in black or white, and it is of the ‘long stem’ form that Apple pioneered and has been copied by various brands ever since.

They’re manufactured correctly, as is the LG way, from high-quality, shiny, and tactile plastic. In addition, they’ll fit pretty much any ear due to three various sizes of medical-grade silicone ear tips.

The earbuds are tiny and light enough to wear for hours, measuring 28x22x25mm and weighing little over 5g.

The charging case in which they travel is a similarly subtle and manageable 55x55x30mm and 39g – It will fit snugly in your pocket or in your palm.

The LG Tone Free T90Q true wireless earbuds were introduced in September 2022 in the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe. However, we still need confirmation of its availability in Australia. They cost $229.99.

However, these buds were already reduced to $179.99 at the time of writing.

Performance

These buds can sense your head motions and adjust the soundstage of a song, film, or video game to make you feel completely involved. Overall, each choice delivers a fun and energetic performance rather than a collection of integrated hi-fi sound profiles.

Active noise cancellation is effective. Unfortunately, as we type this, the earbuds nearly entirely block the sound of a fan whirring next to us and a discussion on the other side of the room.

Call quality is acceptable and it performs far better inside, with fewer competing sounds. In certain circumstances, the buds struggle slightly but maintain your sound on the other end.

Features of LG Tone Free T90Q

LG’s first truly wireless earbuds include Dolby Atmos spatial audio & Dolby head-tracking. In addition, a pair of large (11mm) full-range Graphene dynamic drivers provide sound.

The charging case can also work as a Bluetooth transmitter, so if you connect a source with a headphone output to the case’s USB-C connection, that source becomes a wireless source.

When the earphones are closed in the case, the UV-C lighting destroys 99.9% of the microorganisms on them in five minutes. When they aren’t, an IPX4 certification suggests they can withstand reasonable moisture levels.

Battery Life

The battery life is a solid nine hours with ANC turned off, reducing to around five hours with it turned on, and the case has a little more than three total charges. A five-minute charge provides an hour of use, and the T90Q supports Qi-certified wireless and rapid charging.

Final Thoughts

LG has nailed the Tone Free T90’s sound quality. These are among the best wireless earbuds for the money, and their immersive performance raises them even further when Dolby Atmos is enabled.

However, certain poorly implemented features make these buds appear over-specified for the price. Touch controls and call quality are minor flaws, but what drags these earbuds down is their noise suppression capabilities, which keep the Tone Free T90 from obtaining a much higher grade.

LG would have been better off abandoning ANC. However, if you are more concerned with dynamic and immersive Dolby Atmos sound quality, the LGs are worth considering.
