Nick Murphy has directed the upcoming cold war espionage thriller series ‘A Spy Among Friends. The plot of the series is adapted from a screenplay by Alex Cary which is based on the same named story of British author and historian Ben Macintyre.
The series is delivered by the online digital video service for subscription BritBox, founded by ITV plc and BBC Studios.
Plot Line of ‘A Spy Among Friends:
The plot line of the upcoming series A Spy Among Friends is set in England in 1963. It revolves around two men named Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby. Elliott is an intelligence officer of M16 and Philby is his close friend cum colleague.
But things change rapidly when Elliott learns that Philby is actually a secret double agent for KGB who has defected to the Soviet Union. It is notable that Elliott and Philby both are real-life characters who died in the late twentieth century.

Damian Lewis-
The role of Nicholas Elliott is played by English actor Damian Lewis who has starred in a number of films and tv series and won a number of accolades.
Film credits Lewis include ‘An Unfinished Life’, ‘Stormbreaker’, ‘The Escapist’, ‘The Sweeney’, ‘Romeo & Juliet’, ‘Queen of the Desert, ‘Our Kind of Traitor’, ‘Run This Town, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, ‘Dream Horse’ etc.
In the 2001 war drama series, ‘Band of Brothers’ Lewis played the role of Richard Winters or Dick. He played the lead role of Detective Charles Crews Jr. or Charlie in NBC’s crime drama series ‘Life’.
Then from 2011 to 2014, Lewis played a Marine Corps Scout Sniper named Nicholas Brody in another espionage thriller ‘Homeland’. In BBC Two’s 2015 miniseries Wolf Hall’ he portrayed Henry VIII, King of England.
As the primary character Robert Axelrod or Bobby he was cast in the American drama series ‘Billions’ from 2016 to 2021.
Guy Pearce-
Veteran Australian actor Guy Pearce has played the double agent Kim Philby in the upcoming series.
His film credits include ‘L.A. Confidential, ‘The King’s Speech, ’33 Postcards’, ‘The Rover’, ‘The Hurt Locker, ‘Memento’, ‘Flynn’, ‘Factory Girl, ‘Defying Acts’, ‘Genius’, ‘The Catcher Was a Spy’, ‘Mary Queen of Scots, ‘The Last Vermeer’ etc.
In the 2011 miniseries, HBO Mildred Pierce Pearce was cast as the lead character Monty Beragon co-starring with Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood.
He portrayed a former criminal lawyer who turned into a private investigator and debt collector Jack Irish in the 2012 movies Jack Irish: Bad Debts’ and ‘Jack Irish: Black Tide’, in the 2014 movie ‘Jack Irish: Dead Point, and in the Australian tv series ‘Jack Irish’ from 2016 to 2021.
Anna Maxwell Martin-
Another cast member of the upcoming series is British actress Anna Maxwell Martin. Her film credits include ‘Enduring Love, ‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, ‘Chubby Funny’, ‘Say Your Prayers’, etc.

English actor Adrian Edmondson will also be seen starring in the upcoming series. His previous tv series include ‘The Comic Strip Presents…’, ‘Bottom’, ‘Holby City’, ‘Prey’, ‘Bancroft’, ‘Save Me, ‘EastEnders’, ‘The Pact’ etc.
Stephen Kunken-
American actor Stephen Kunken is another cast member of the series. He appeared in the role of Todd Fleck in the 2010 mystery crime romantic movie ‘All Good Things’ which cast Ryan Gosling and Kristen Dunst in the lead roles.
He also starred in the 2012 comedy movie ‘Price Check’ as Cartwright. The same year he also played Dr. Jack Abrams in the mockumentary horror movie ‘The Bay. As Jerry Fogel, he appeared in a minor role in the Academy Award-nominated The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013.
The next year Kunken played Dr. Benjamin in the drama movie ‘Still Alice. As an American politician of the Republic Party- William F. Tompkins, Kunken was cast in the 2015 historical movie ‘Bridge of Spies.
In 2016 he acted in three movies- ‘Custody’, ‘Café Society, and ‘Jason Bourne’ in the roles of Mark Dooley, Leonard, and Baumen respectively. In 2019 Kunken was cast as Joel Liberman in Cindy Chupack’s comedy movie Otherhood’ and as Phillip Roseman, he was cast in Ron Howard’s American drama ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ in 2020.

Filming and Release Date of ‘A Spy Among Friends:
The photography of the upcoming series A Spy Among Friends primarily took place in London and in Romania. The principal filming wrapped in the Spring of 2022.
Chrissy Skinns and cast member Damian Lewis serve as producers of the series. It is set to broadcast on November 1, 2022.
