So, the never-ending affair of Bollywood and sequels continues, and they are all set for part 2 of the 2014 released movie Yaariyan.
The original film was based on the new age love story and romance starring the debutant Himansh Kohli and it was also the Bollywood debut of Rakul Preet Singh, the film was also the directorial debut of Divya Khosla Kumar who is the wife of the chairman and managing director of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar.
The movie initially had lots of hype behind it as it was a generation Z film with some new and fresh faces making their Bollywood debut, but the response from fans to the film was totally opposite of what was expected.
The film hit the theaters in the second week of January 2014 and it received really bad reviews from the fans, since it was the new year week and the holidays were on, the film did manage to generate good revenue at the box office for the first week, but it also fetched huge criticism from fans and top film critiques.
The movie’s budget was 10 crore and it somehow managed to collect 54 crore, and it has a 2.7/10 rating on IMDB.
More About Yaariyan 2 Announcement
Recently T-series has announced that the Yaariyan 2 will be released in May 2023, the film will mark the Bollywood debut of popular South Indian actress Priya Prakash Varrier, other stars like Divya Khosla Kumar, Meezaan Jafri, Pearl V Puri, and Warina Hussain will also be seen in the movie.
Yaariyan 2 is a remake of the Malayalam film Bangalore Days which coincidently was released in 2014, the comedy-drama film will be directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru and will be produced by T. Series.
Given how the sequels are failing in the Bollywood industry, it was quite a strange decision to create part 2 of a film whose first part was already below average and it will be interesting to see how the movie will perform and the box office.
