HP Pavilion 15: Price, Design, Performance, and Much More

HP Pavilion 15: HP’s Pavilion line has always represented the company’s consumer mid-range marque, and this 15-inch model fits right in; it’s a not-quite-ultrabook laptop with a lot going for it.

The model is loaded with high-end hardware, from 16GB of RAM to a fast 512GB SSD, from a touchscreen 15.3-inch FHD display to a 4th-generation AMD Ryzen 7 processor.

HP Pavilion 15: Price

That’s not to say it’s cheap; it costs $849.99 in the United States and £850 in the United Kingdom.

In Australia, you’ll have to settle for the eh0065AU. Which lacks the touchscreen and replaces the 512GB SSD with a 1TB model; it’s also slightly more expensive at AU$2,199.

Design

HP Pavilion 15

The HP Pavilion 15- (2021) looks fantastic for its price point, with HP cutting things back significantly. The screen, for example, is much thinner and stiffer than we’d expect from a plastic-cased laptop.

In addition, it’s well-braced on the inside because it lacks the benefit of a glass front to add rigidity.

The right side has one USB Type-C port (with Type-C display support), one USB 2.0 Type-A port, HDMI, and a microSD slot. On the left side is a single USB 2.0 Type-A port and a charging port. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 are used for wireless connectivity.

Display

The HP Pavilion 15’s display isn’t the best for photo editing. Yes, it has a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, but it is still unsuitable for photo editing or digital art.

All it does is allow you to watch and process data on a bright screen with a wide color gamut coverage and a brightness of 250 nits.

Performance

HP Pavilion 15

AMD and Intel are at odds once again, and they’re playing a game of leapfrog; where the Ryzen 4000-series CPU in this machine may have been the crown jewel of laptop chips a few months ago, Intel’s 11th-generation processors have now come along, and outsparkled it.

This isn’t a gaming laptop, but the amount of hardware overlap between professional creatives and gamers makes the distinction null and void, save for the graphics card option. The Pavilion 15 can only run basic games, but it’s one of the best options for other office tasks.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The HP 15-eg0021nr has a good keyboard that is easy to use. The keys have nice key travel – not as much as on the Lenovo ThinkPad T490, but more than most laptops in this price range. In addition, they have underlighting, so you can work late at night without feeling tired.

Another interesting feature of this keyboard is that the power switch is located on the top-right of the keyboard rather than on the side of the chassis.

Battery Life

There’s no getting around it: the HP Pavilion 15’s battery life is a huge letdown. Given its weight, we expected this to have a large enough battery to last at least a full day’s work; as it stands, you’d have your work cut out to get eight hours out of it.
