Set against the backdrop of wedding planning, invites, and socializing, the movie will explore what happens when two individuals who stage a romance actually end up falling in love with each other and are unable to conceal their true feelings.

Asha Maurya, an Indian American, is the main character of the novel and is under parental pressure to find a husband and settle down. Her mother creates a dating profile for her daughter and sets up dates without telling her since she is so determined for this to happen for her. It doesn’t sound like a fantastic narrative to tell the kids about a meet-cute.

When Asha asks the matriarch to delete the dating profile, the matriarch agrees—but only if she meets a man called Ravi, and the two of them attend some weddings. Asha’s parents have been organizing a dinner with a few of the boys they want their daughter to marry. Therefore, Asha will have to take drastic measures to get her off her back.

Asha is (likely) a workaholic; in fact, her boss thought it was terrific that he had grabbed her away from Wall Street. Even at weddings, she brings her laptop so she can complete her work. An “MIT genius,” Ravi is “taking a sabbatical from his career” and relishing the time and happiness it’s giving him. The timing of their meeting could not be worse. However, they discover a mutually advantageous relationship by acting like they are dating and going to weddings.

The lines start to blur, though, and before long, they’re madly in love with one other, just as their parents had hoped. This is typical of any phony dating scenario in the annals of romantic comedies. Will it ultimately work out for them despite the vast differences in their lifestyles? Who will fall first? The answers to these questions may be predictable to viewers, but the event isn’t ended until the officiant declares it so.

The fact that Asha’s parents are attempting to introduce her to an Indian suitor when her sister Priya chose to wed a white man does strike one as a little weird. Maybe it’s because Asha hasn’t tried to find love on her own, and her parents only know how to do it for her in that way.
