The Essex Serpent is an upcoming TV series based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Perry.

The series belongs to the Period Drama genre and is written by Anna Symon, and directed by Clio Barnard. It is starring Clairne Danes, Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy and Jamael Western.

The Essex Serpent season 1 will have six episodes and it will be released on 13th May 2022 on Apple TV+.

Filming for the Essex Serpent began in February 2021 in a number of Essex Locations including Alresford, Brightlingsea, North Fambridge, and Maldon, as well as across London including Gordon Square in Bloomsbury. Filming for the first season finished on June 27, 2021.

PREMISE

“The Essex Serpent ” Follows London widow Cora Seaborne who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms a surprising bond with a pastor, but when tragedy strikes locals accuse her of attracting the creative.

The show takes place in 1893 set in the fictional village of Aldwinter. When writing the book, Perry took inspiration from her childhood memories of Essex especially the town of Maldon.

The Essex Serpent is a 2016 novel belonging to the Victorian period by British author Sarah Perry. The book is the second novel by Perry and was released on 27th May 2016 in the Uk through Serpent’s Tail an imprint of Profile Books.
