Suicide Squad 2 BTS Image Shows Pete Davidson & Idris Elba in Prison Jumpsuits

Suicide Squad 2 Updates: James Gunn shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from The Suicide Squad featuring Pete Davidson as Blackguard and Idris Elba as Bloodsport, both of whom are dressed in prison jumpsuits.

Some characters from David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad film, including Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, return in Gunn’s solo sequel. Robert du Bois, a.k.a. Bloodsport, a mercenary enemy of Superman with a bespoke technologically advanced suit, and Richard “Dick” Hertz, a.k.a. Blackguard, a less-than-intelligent mercenary who usually ends up foiling his schemes or dying through his stupidity, are among the new characters introduced by Gunn from the DC comic book canon.

In The Suicide Squad, Davidson’s Blackguard and Elba’s Bloodsport, along with the rest of Task Force X, head to the island of Corto Maltese to demolish a Nazi prison and laboratory, only to be confronted by Starro, a huge extraterrestrial starfish.

In comparison to 2016’s Suicide Squad, the presence of a huge extraterrestrial starfish may hint at the film’s tone. Joel Kinnaman reprises his role as Rick Flag, Peter Capaldi plays Gaius Greves, a.k.a. The Thinker and Slyvester Stallone play King Shark in the film. In addition, he recently posted a behind-the-scenes selfie with co-star John Cena, who plays Peacemaker in the film. On August 5, the film will be released in theatres and on HBO Max.

In the run-up to the film’s premiere, Gunn has been revealing fresh behind-the-scenes photos from The Suicide Squad’s promotional tour. In his most recent shot, Gunn leans in close to Davidson, who wraps his arm over Gunn’s shoulder. Despite his “werewolf fear,” Gunn hails Davidson as a “wonderful talent” with whom he “had a tremendous affinity,” the latter a reference to a joke featured in the newest “leaked” Suicide Squad teaser.

The orange prison jumpsuits worn by both Davidson and Elba imply that the shot was taken during the filming of events prior to Task Force X‘s mission. Due to the character’s relative obscurity in the comic, it’s uncertain how significant Blackguard’s involvement in the film will be.

Because Davidson has demonstrated his comedic abilities on Saturday Night Live in the trailers and TV commercials, it’s possible that Blackguard is being portrayed largely as comic relief. Bloodsport, on the other hand, looks to be a protagonist in the film, since the trailers promise a dramatic father-daughter drama plotline and Waller chooses him to head The Suicide Squad on their mission.

Early reactions to the film have been favorable, with acclaim for the ensemble cast, stylized violence, and humor. Gunn may have placed The Suicide Squad franchise on a less controversial path by bringing in new characters and leaving out some of the more divisive ones from Suicide Squad, such as Jared Leto’s Joker. With the Peacemaker TV spin-off on the way, Warner Bros. appears to be confident about how Gunn’s vision will be received by a larger audience.
