The writing process for the third and fourth seasons of Bill Hader‘s critically acclaimed dark comedy Barry has been finished, according to the actor. During his appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Hader discussed the status of the third season.

“We were a week away from shooting when the lockdown happened in March,” he said. The last time I was in a room with a large group of people was for the table read for season three’s first and second episodes, and we were all set to go. Then it was all turned off. Season three is totally written and ready to go, and we actually wrote season four during this period, so we have both of them finished.

Bill Hader plays the titular character, a depressed hitman from the Midwest who gets sucked into a group of acting students while on the job in Los Angeles. Hader co-created the show with Alec Berg, which won three Emmy nominations in 2019, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

The show debuted on HBO in March 2018, followed by a second season in March 2019. In April 2020, the premium cable TV network renewed the show for a third season.

Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, D’Arcy Carden, and Henry Winkler also appear in Barry. Alec Berg and Bill Hader executive produce the show, with Aida Rodger serving as co-executive producer.
