Lupin: Assane Smelling His Father’s Gloves Is Secretly Heartbreaking

Lupin Part 1 Updates: In Lupin Part 1, Assane Diop smelling his father Babakar’s gloves was secretly heartbreaking. The father-son relationship is built early on in the Netflix series.

Babakar, a Senegalese refugee, had joined Assane in Paris and found work with the wealthy Pellegrini family. Babakar, on the other hand, was accused of breaking into Hubert Pellegrini’s safe and stealing a priceless necklace that once belonged to Marie Antoinette.

It’s enough to claim that Babakar had no chance against the influential Pellegrini’s, who had him framed in order to collect the insurance money for the necklace.

Babakar’s friendship with Assane is mostly discussed by flashbacks, given that he committed suicide shortly after being incarcerated. The literary works of Maurice Leblanc, who produced Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief Assane takes inspiration from to pull off his heists, forge Assane’s reference to his father.

Babakar gave one of the books to Assane when he was young, according to Lupin. While the father-son relationship appears to be good, the audience would be disappointed to learn that Assane and Babakar are rarely seen interacting outside of the Pellegrini house.

Lupin: Assane Heartbreaking Story

The Wire

Babakar put in a lot of effort while caring for his son, as demonstrated by Assane’s discovery of the grounds and thus the pool area to keep himself busy while his father attended the Pellegrini’s. Assane takes his father’s gloves in his hands and puts them close to his face to inhale the smell.

The gloves seem to offer comfort to Assane, who hopes to feel closer to his father while proving his innocence. The fact that the objects were Babakar’s work gloves adds to the effect of the act, meaning that Assane’s memories of his father are all focused on his work. Assange’s only possessions as an adult are the things leftover from his father’s job.

Throughout the first five episodes of Lupin Part 1, class separation is the main theme. Babakar was not offered the benefit of the doubt over the robbery because he was a labour Black man, and he was sentenced to jail for a crime he did not commit. Nobody worried for his side of the case, so he waited until autumn to rescue a wealthy man and his family.

Hubert Pellegrini, on the other hand, was willing to get away with imprisoning an innocent man, collecting the necklace’s insurance money, and silencing the lieutenant without facing the consequences.

In Netflix’s latest show Lupin, Assane smelling and gripping his father’s work gloves is a sign of the class difference and an example of how work can get in the way of quality family time. Furthermore, all Assane is doing today is a direct product of his father’s mistreatment at his work 25 years ago. For more updates stay tuned.
