Who’s Cole Young, huh? Lewis Tan’s Mortal Kombat Character

Mortal Kombat Updates: Mortal Kombat’s 2021 reboot film features the enigmatic Cole Young. Here’s what we know about the original character of Lewis Tan.

2021’s Mortal Kombat movie adds a new character to Cole Young’s mythology, and here’s what we know regarding Lewis Tan’s warrior. Previous efforts to adapt the classic video game did not do justice to the property, so that’s what director Simon McQuoid and producer James Wan are trying to avoid with the remake.

The unveiling of the first Mortal Kombat trailer has given rise to a lot of hype thanks to the film’s potential to feature so many fan-favorite characters from thirty years of gaming history.

The heart of Mortal Kombat circles around the continuing duel between Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) and Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), two of the most famous characters in the series.

They’re just the beginning of familiar faces that gamers can see in the movie, though. The protagonists will be  Raiden (Tadanobu Asano),  Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kano (Josh Lawson), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax Briggs (Mehcad Brooks),  and Kung Lao (Max Huang).

Mortal Kombat villains also included  Mileena (Sisi Stringer), Shang Tsung (Chin Han),  Goro, Reptile, and Kabal. With all these characters in the games used in the film, it would be understandable to assume that one of them is the main character—but that’s not the case.

As the early publicity materials for Mortal Kombat have revealed, the main character will be the original character developed for the film: Cole Young. This discovery has come as a surprise to many, particularly the other significant characters from Mortal Kombat who have been left out of the film. Who’s Cole Young, then? Here’s what we hear about the newest candidate chosen to defend Earthrealm.

The man who plays Cole Young in Mortal Kombat is Lewis Tan. A professional real-life martial artist, due to his numerous roles, has been a fan-favorite online actor in recent years.

He picked up a major one when he lobbied to be Iron Fist in the Netflix Iron Fist series. Though Danny Rand’s leading role was not landed, in one episode he made an unforgettable appearance as a drunken martial arts master.

After losing out on that heroic role, Tan landed Shatterstar’s part in Deadpool 2, but his X-Force role was murdered with the entire team during the film.

Cole Young is An Original Mortal Kombat Movie Character: here is what we know about this

As mentioned above, Cole Young is the protagonist of Mortal Kombat, a brand new character developed for the film. The trailer revealed several more improvements to the mythology of the game, and the inclusion of a new warrior is something that the director feels is in line with the mood of the games.

Cole Young is featured in the Mortal Kombat teaser, which offers some general information about him—especially when coupled with facts gathered from interviews and the film’s synopsis.

Cole is part of this story partially because of the birthmark that matches the symbol of Mortal Kombat, but there are also signs that he is a much greater part of this world than he or we know.

Sub-Zero is responsible for hunting Cole Young in the movie by Shang Tsung, but it is not yet understood why. The film’s synopsis teases that there’s a lot more to Cole’s backstory than he has a family he’s unaware about. The movie’s trailer has already developed a lot of speculation about who Cole might really be.
