The Mandalorian Season 2 Updates: The Mandalorian Season 2 saw Cara Dune becoming Marshal of Nevarro-and she plays the part of Jedi in the Old Republic.
Star Wars has announced that Marshal Cara Dune is theoretically the successor to the Jedi in The Mandalorian. Set five years after the return of the Jedi, the Mandalorian announced the loss of the Empire at the Battle of Jakku, leaving the galaxy in anarchy.
The control of the New Republic is based on the Galactic Core; although the Outer Rim theoretically belongs to the Republic, this is only nominally the case because they do not have the strength to bring peace to the galaxy.
The Mandalorian Season 2 revealed that the Revolutionary Republic is planning to police the Outer Rim by recruiting trained operatives to act as planetary marshals.
Cara Dune signed up as Marshal of the planet Navarro, and she’s obviously doing a decent job of cleaning up the planet. Marshals seem to be quasi-autonomous, with extraordinary powers; Cara Dune was also able to sign a prisoner of the New Republic from a penal colony without any hassle.
On the face of it, it is very shocking that a new government will offer such sweeping authority to untested figures-but it seems that they are simply following a tried and tested formula.

Lucasfilm’s new transmedia initiative, Star Wars: The High Republic, has announced that the Marshal concept is actually based on the Jedi themselves.
These stories are set during the High Republic Era, about 200 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace, when the Old Republic first spread beyond the Outer Rim, and Hyperspace was already seen as dangerous.
The Jedi Order spread into the Rim alongside the Republic, building outposts on any populated planet they could, and Jedi Knights acted as peacekeepers in this vast region of space.
As Cavan Scott’s Star Wars: High Republic #2 reveals, the Jedi who was put in charge of the outpost was formally named Marshal. Avar Kriss, starring in Charles Soule’s novel Light of the Jedi, was reportedly the Marshal of Starlight Beacon.
It makes sense for the New Republic to base its forms of government on those that have worked before. There is only one thing, however; at this point in time, there are few precious Jedi who may act as Marshals.
As a result, the New Republic has been forced to adjust and nominate eligible individuals such as Cara Dune to act as Marshals for the time being. No wonder they expect that Luke Skywalker will finally train enough Jedi to take over.
For now, though, this means that Cara Dune is effectively the successor of the Jedi Order itself. Serving as a Marshal, she has the same kind of power and control that Jedi enjoyed in the past, which explains why she proved so useful to Din Dujardin in The Mandalorian season 2. It’s going to be fascinating to see how she plays this role in Mandalorian Season 3.
