Before it was made a Netflix project the play was adapted into an plaudit film by William Friendkin. After that Ryan Murphy revived the play by Broadway, earning himself a Tony Award for best revival. It made him opt to produce the film and make it a Netflix project. The movie will be released in 2020 as a Netflix original. The screen play of the movie is written by Mart Crowley along with Net Martel.

The Boys in the Band: Plot

The movie follows the story of a group of gay friends gathering for a birthday celebration in the city of New York but their evening turns upside down because of a potential stranger’s visit. This uninvited guest was the college roommate of one of boys in the group.

The cast for the film, with lead roles played by:
• Jim Parsons, famous for starring in The Big Bang Theory ;
• Zach Quinto from Star Trek ;
• Matt Boomer from American Crime Story and
• Andrew Ranells, a famous theatre artist.
These four actors will repossess their roles from the 1968 stage version of Broadway.
The supporting cast mostly includes the other artists from the stage version :
• Robin de Jesus, famous for his work in the stage version of In The Heights;
• Charlie Craver from The Leftovers;
• Tuc Watkins from Desperate Housewives ;
• Michael Benjamin Washington from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and
• Brian Hutchison from Jessica Jones.
