The Rats Netflix Witcher Spin-off Expected Release Date, Cast, and More!

Here’s everything we know about The Rats: The Witcher season 3‘s first half is now available on Netflix, and it’s a massive one. This season is under much more scrutiny because of the miserable reaction to last year’s live-action prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origin. The mothership show had much to prove, and by all accounts, it excelled.

Season 3 will continue with three more episodes. Following that, there will be a new season about the Rats, a gang of young robbers who steal from the affluent and give to the poor, preferably when it suits them.

We’ve already met one of the Rats in the upcoming episodes, but the series needs to identify her: Mistle, portrayed by Christelle Elwin.

There is no release date because Netflix has yet to announce The Rats’ release date officially, and we should wait to anticipate one. Netflix appears to be attempting to produce at least one Witcher-related project every year.

We won’t see The Witcher season 4 until at least 2025. Therefore, it is likely that Netflix will seek to release The Rats in 2024 to bridge the gap between Witcher seasons as they did with The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Netflix

The Rats’ concept is not based on any of The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski’s books or storylines but instead involves the characters and creates its past for them just before they meet Ciri at the end of The Witcher Season 3.

As of now, we have a brief synopsis:

“Six teenage thieves have to depend on their criminal talents as they plot the biggest heist of their lives against the most lethal crime ring in the kingdom.”

The Rats series began production under the false name ‘Riff Raff’ in Cape Town, South Africa. Production started in late April and was scheduled to end in September 2023; however, as Redanian Intelligence reported in July 2023, the series has completed production.

This has sparked discussion regarding the final form Rats (or Riff Raff) will take. The amount of episodes of The Rats is unknown at this time.

However, it might be as little as four, similar to The Witcher: Blood Origin. It’s also possible that Netflix may turn it into a movie instead of a series.
