A Spanish ship carrying a chest of gold money sank near the coast of Florida a few centuries ago.
Mike, when he was younger, once discovered a coin hidden inside a fish, and many years later, when attending a support group for problem gamblers, he made the connection between the discovery of the coin and his gambling addiction.
Gil Franco also belonged to that group. Gil, who was addicted to gambling, simply could not resist the temptation to go after the treasure.
In the hopes that it would help him, he took this chance, and it worked. He discovered the gold, but Moss discovered him before he could cash it out.
He attempted to inform the mobster about it, but Moss dismissed it as another gambler’s trick to buy time. Therefore, he killed Gil.
In the end, when Mike confronts Sonny, he admits that he never intended to inform Mike about the gold since he doesn’t want his son to leave.
Mike decides that it is not satisfactory, and he goes back to hating his father just when he believes that he and his father might be able to make things.

Florida Man’s first seven episodes hinted that Mike and Delly would set out in pursuit of the treasures and begin a new life together.
