Return To Monkey Island: Every Detail That Fans Should Know

Since its introduction, Return To Monkey Island visual style has gained the most attention. You can see from one glance at the game that it aims for a completely distinct visual style from what you would be accustomed to in the series. The game’s artist, Rex Crowle of Tearaway fame, has chosen a highly distinctive look.

Interestingly, Ron Gilbert claimed that the development team first considered using pixel art but finally chose to use something that gamers wouldn’t have anticipated.

On his blog, he stated: “We didn’t want to develop a vintage game… Monkey Island is intriguing, enjoyable, and exciting, so I wanted to keep moving it along. The Monkey Island video games have always done this. I wanted the Return to Monkey Island artwork to be surprising, challenging, and out of the usual.

Return To Monkey Island: Characters

Given its narrative premise, Return to Monkey Island is bound to bring back several of the series’ most famous and iconic characters. Guybrush Threepwood, the series’ protagonist, is back, as is undead antagonist LeChuck.

However, Guybrush will not be alone, and his customary companion Elaine Marley will accompany him again. Even the Demonic Talking Skull is making a return. Even better, all of these parts will be played again by their original performers.

Return To Monkey Island: Release Date

Return To Monkey Island

According to a trailer presented during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Ron Gilbert’s latest entry in the famous point-and-click series, Return to Monkey Island will be published on September 19th. The game will be released for the PC and Nintendo Switch.

Gilbert initially teased the game this year in what looked like an April Fools’ prank, but it was revealed that he wasn’t. The new game is a continuation of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, although Gilbert and Dave Grossman suggested in an interview with The Verge that it might feature canon from past games in the series.

Plot

Guybrush Threepwood hasn’t faced his enemy, the undead pirate LeChuck, in a battle of intellect in many years. Elaine Marley, his real love, has shifted her concentration away from governance, and Guybrush himself is drifting and dissatisfied, having never discovered the Secret of Monkey Island.

Hip, youthful pirate leaders commanded by Captain Madison have deposed the old guard, Melee Island has deteriorated, and legendary merchant Stan has been imprisoned for marketing-related offenses.’

Casual Mode

Return to Monkey Island will also have an easy option or Casual mode, as it is known in the game. The casual mode will ease the puzzle-solving part for gamers who aren’t seeking much of a challenge and prefer to focus on the tale rather than go through complicated challenges. Above all, the makers claim that the Casual mode is intended for individuals unfamiliar with the genre.

More Gameplay Information

Even while Return to Monkey Island is a classic point-and-click game, it does offer several adjustments and enhancements to the gameplay of its predecessors.

That includes a fresh user interface, a certain quality of life upgrades (including the inventory’s new drag-and-drop functionality), responsive dialogue trees, context-sensitive actions, and more.
