The series follows a white Midwestern family as they adjust to moving to the predominantly black neighborhood of Pasadena, California. Moves from Michigan with her young son Glover when his wife Gemma takes a job as a principal in Los Angeles. I didn’t let that deter me that my new dream home is in a community that’s very different from a small town. Her bossy neighbor Calvin Butler is suspicious of the newcomer convinced that the Johnson family will disrupt Brock’s culture. But Calvin’s lovely wife, Tina, rolls out the welcome cart.
Her lively second son, Marty, sees the Johnsons as useful to the community. And unemployed eldest son Malcolm realizes that Dave has finally become someone who understands him. Dave finds fitting into his new community harder than he expected, but if he can find a way to connect with Calvin, he has a great chance to make his new neighborhood his home.
