Knives Out 2” proved a rollercoaster for plenty of moviegoers on its way to just over $310 million at the worldwide box office and the movie’s fulfillment gave Johnson the keys to something he eyed from the beginning.
“Knives Out” is an anthology series in which Daniel Craig’s character, detective Benoit Blanc, investigates a new murder in each installment.
Such a move would allow Johnson to cast a brand new ensemble with every film, and that already is paying off dramatically for the approaching sequel “Glass Onion: A Knives Out mystery.”
While the exact date or placement of the screening has yet to be positioned by TIFF, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out mystery” will world-premiere at the Toronto international film festival this September before debuting on Netflix.
The festival runs from September 8 through 18.
Rian Johnson revealed the title for the sequel in a Twitter thread about thriller writer Agatha Christie on June 13.

The film is distributed by Lionsgate in November 2019 and has become a box office sensation, grossing $311 million worldwide.
It’s rarer and rarer for an original property to break out at the box office in such a big way, so it was no surprise when in February 2020 the news came that Johnson and Craig were shifting forward with “Knives Out 2.”
In 2019 while promoting Knives Out, Johnson highly hinted at the possibility of a sequel.
It was confirmed in 2020 that he was working on a story with Craig set to reprise his role.
Also in March 2021, Netflix sold the rights to two sequels to Knives Out for $469 million.
Filming occur on the island of Spetses, Greece, between June and July 2021 and continued outside of Greece till September.
The Returning crew members from Knives Out included cinematographer Steve, editor Bob D. and composer N.Johnson.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out mystery is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto global movie pageant in September 2022, and will be launched in late 2022.

The film was nominated for three Golden Globes and Johnson was Oscar-nominated for great original Screenplay.
