Black Clover Creator Congratulates My Hero Academia on Anniversary Exhibit

Black Clover Updates: The maker of Black Clover congratulated the creator of My Hero Academia on the launch of a special art show commemorating the anime series’ fifth anniversary.  As part of the Spring 2021 schedule, My Hero Academia has begun its fifth year of animation, and it’s a major year for the franchise in a great many ways.

Not merely will it start a new anime season, but it will also release its third feature film in Japan this summer. In addition, to commemorate this significant anniversary, the series hosted a special art show in Japan.

This latest display not only contains unique new art by series creator Kohei Horikoshi, but it also features a booklet with congratulations and words of support from fellow Weekly Shonen Jump manga authors including Yuki Tabata of the Black Clover series, as @aitaikimochi on Twitter pointed out (and translated).

Tabata’s declaration is frank and heartfelt, as he expresses gratitude to “Horipi” for influencing his own life’s work. The comment starts out like this: “Horikoshi-sensei…I believe I first knew Horipi through a mutual friend when he came and assisted me with a one-shot that was released in Jump.

Horipi had been well in Jump’s serialization scene at the time, and I was aware of him. He had incredible drawing talent that made me convulse, despite the fact that he was younger than me.”

Tabata’s comment goes on like this: “Even though both of our series is currently serialized in Jump, his sketches still make me shudder with anticipation each week.

There was a moment after serialization that he and I lived next to each other and wanted to get supper together. We were unable to do so due to the fact that both of our publishing plans were very hectic.”

As such, Tabata concludes the emotional congratulatory note “When things got tough with publishing, I’d say to myself, ‘Well, Horipi is going through the same trials and tribulations as me,’ and that thought kept me going.

When I told Horipi on LINE that my wife had given birth, he called me immediately. I’d like to congratulate him on the launch of the [My Hero Academia] Exhibition because he’s such a great person!”
