The Conjuring 3: Every Easter Egg & Horror Movie Reference

The Conjuring 3 Updates: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is chock-full of horror movie allusions and Easter eggs related to The Conjuring Universe’s episodes. The cinematic franchise was created by filmmaker James Wan and comprises eight films.

Despite the fact that Wan did not return to direct The Conjuring 3 after helming the first two films in the franchise, Michael Chaves took up the responsibility to flesh out the lives of legendary paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). Chaves successfully included a number of references to the rest of the fictional universe as well as prominent horror aspects in the process.

Ed and Lorraine transferred their knowledge across the pond after the examination of a Rhode Island mansion depicted in The Conjuring in 1971. Despite criticism surrounding the odd case and their status as credible paranormal investigators, The Conjuring 2 centered on the investigators assisting the Hodgson family in 1977 Enfield, London.

The Devil Made Me Do It 2 goes away from the haunted home setting and into an equally unpleasant environment based on Arne Cheyenne Johnson’s real-life trial in 1981. Ruairi O’Connor portrays Arne, a man who becomes possessed and commits a murder, which the Warrens wish to show as a defense in his court case.

From beginning to end, The Devil Made Me Do It makes ingenious connections that horror aficionados of various subgenres will enjoy. Chaves commented on his “shameless homage” to previous films when he showed The Conjuring 3’s opening scene during a virtual event (via IGN). “The Conjuring movies are always these love letters to horror movies,” he said, adding that he enjoyed watching audiences create connections during viewing. The Devil Made Me Do It is no exception, and here’s a list of Easter eggs and horror movie allusions throughout the film.

The Conjuring 3: Father Gordon’s Exorcist Arrival

His body is contorted to mirror the demon’s movements in the classic horror movie. Arne begs the demon to enter his body instead of Regan in the movie. The film’s opening sequence is a tribute to William Friedkin’s classic horror film.

The Perron Family

Ed and Lorraine Perron helped the Warren family in 2013’s The Conjuring. The couple came to the rescue of Roger and Carolyn when their farmhouse was being terrorized by an evil spirit. He wakes up in the hospital to tell the Warrens of the new host for Arne.

Appearances By Valak

In The Conjuring 2, Valak is revealed to be the spirit behind Bathsheba in the Conjuring universe. The demon made its first appearance in The Devil Made Me Do It.

A scene from 1988’s A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 is referenced in The Conjuring 3. The Dream Master’s associate director also worked on the film. In their new house, the family discovers a waterbed left by the previous owner. The scene isn’t the most explicit, but the basic fear is still present. David Chaves, who also directed The Exorcist and Psycho, is behind the camera.

Father Kastner’s Artifact Room

Ed and Lorraine end up paying a visit to Father Kastner, a retired priest, in The Conjuring. The man had dealt with demonic organizations before. His basement functions as an artifact room that is comparable to the Warrens’.

When Lorraine sees the demonic relics, Ed suggests that he burn them. Although Father has considered it, he believes it is safer to keep them closed. He compares it to keeping firearms off the streets.

The Disciples Of Ram Cult

In The Conjuring Universe, the Disciples of Ram cult has already been created. In the Annabelle films, the ensemble is featured. The Occultist in The Conjure 3 is the daughter of Father Kastner, who has become intrigued with her father’s studies into the cult.

In the Conjuring 3 movie, the cult’s totems are employed as beacons for demonic possessions. It isn’t the first time the cult has been portrayed in a film.

The Palmeri Name

Palmeri has a long history in The Conjuring Universe, dating back to the original Annabelle film. Ed and Lorraine discover a link to a demonic totem that is identical to theirs. Jessica Strong’s body may have information on the Occultist’s lair. Bob Palmeri (Michael Cimino) is Mary Ellen’s infatuation in the 2019 film “Annabelle Comes Home.”

Ed Warren’s Link To The Shining

Link To The Shining, directed by Ed Warren, was a tribute to Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining. As he followed Lorraine down the tunnels, Chaves handed Ed a sledgehammer. He even walked with a limp, much like Jack did in the movie’s iconic sequence. The Devil Made Me Do It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
