Trickster Season 2: Release Date Update & What we know so far

Trickster Season 2 Update: As the first episode of Trickster unfolds, it becomes apparent that mysterious entities are pursuing Jared (Joel Oulette), an indigenous teen struggling to make ends meet in Kitimat, British Columbia. He’s dropping out of school and selling MDMA to help support his deadbeat parents, but he starts experiencing psychedelic hallucinations and encounters what seems to be an insane doppelgänger walking the streets.

Although he briefly chalks it up to his imagination, he quickly crosses paths with a dark raven, meaning that it’s something more. By the end of the show, it’s obvious that this raven is a shape-shifter, and it’s after Jared because of his hidden ancestry.

Maggie (Crystle Lightning) is in the woods at the start of the show, running after a strange man who turns out to be Wade. When he looks at her to scare her away, his eyes grow dark, implying he’s a ghost or something. Maggie, on the other hand, lets out a horrifying scream that helps her to ostensibly kill Wade and retake the child. This child becomes Jared, and it appears that his coming-of-age is bringing dark powers back years later. It becomes clear when Wade approaches him at a bus stop, hoping to strike up a conversation.

Trickster Season 2

As Jared returns because he detects a bond, he sees a crow, which causes him to think he’s hallucinating. Wade, on the other hand, is trailing the family, and Maggie assumes she sees him at Jared’s fast-food workplace. She makes a mess and is thrown out, prompting Jared to demand that she be shot. Wade, on the other hand, is playing mind games, which ties in with Maggie’s conversation with an unseen entity. Her talents seem to be driving her crazy, and she’s worried she’s handed them on to Jared.

Wade is quite the trickster in Eden Robinson’s novel Son of the Trickster, from which the series is adapted. He’s the Haisla’s mischief-maker, Weight. In the source material, he is also Jared’s dad, and he wants the boy for himself, so the show seems to be following in his footsteps.

The most revealing hint arrives at the end, when Jared is burying a dog that tried to kill him, only for the raven to point up and mock him. Since Jared is lucid at this point, he is scared, but the clock shows that time is running out, causing the boy to flee.

It’s unclear if Wade is coming to turn Jared into a tool or to steal his skills, but it’s clear that something has changed for the young man. Trickster stars Joel Oulette as Jared, Kalani Queypo as Wade, Crystle Lightning as Maggie, Georgina Lightning as Sophia, Anna Lambe as Sarah, Nathan Alexis as Crashpad, Craig Lauzon as Phil, Gail Maurice as Georgina, Joel Thomas Hynes as Richie, and Jamie Spilchuk as Mr. Nice, and is directed by Michelle Latimer. The CW’s Trickster airs on Tuesdays.
