Why High Fidelity and Love Life Are Simply Better Than Other Romantic Comedy Shows

High Fidelity and Love Life: This has been a good year for romantic comedy TV series. Hulu shows High Fidelity along with Love Life on HBO Max, look like they have something in common at first glance.

Firstly in both the shows, there is a young female lead, however, Rob and  Darby are very different personality-wise. But the female protagonist in both the shows think personal growth is more important than anything.

Obviously, romance is the center of the shows. In both the show’s season finale episode, Darby and Rob learn more about themselves and evolve to the best version of themselves. Eventually, they become ready for a partner. However, just like any other female-led romantic comedy series, the partner they end up with is a realistic and healthy choice.

What happens in Darby’s life

In all the seasons Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe grew the most. Her flings are off chasing a toxic man. The man evades her, and she constantly rejects herself. Also, she is going on with her life waiting for the right person, however, he has been there all along.

High Fidelity and Love Life

In Love Life, Darby’s relationship history is a very typical one. This is because of her first love, who is an older guy, has a whirlwind romance. Then Darby is consumed in an emotionally abusive relationship. We then get an insight into her troubled past.

What happens in Rob’s life and how is it different

In the case of Rob, she lusts after Mac, who is her ex and she decides is ‘The One’ after he leaves her. She is selfish and self-loathing and very relatable.

She revisits her past relationships and finds where she went wrong. She also spends time caring for her friends once when she realizes how inconsiderate she has been with them and gets to know a guy who is not at all the person she would want to be with. She doesn’t end up with anyone.

Then the show was unjustly canceled. But she takes a shot. She gets redemption by giving her friend Cherise an important gift.

The World television series need more protagonists like this. We all love a romantic comedy show and like to see women who grow into people who don’t just chase after love but earn it.
